Right turn signal sign with red light

Was traveling in Arkansas recently and came upon the situation. I was making a right turn and at my intersection there was a traditional 3 light stop light with an additional sign that read "right turn signal.
Edit: light was specifically for lanes turning right.
I interpreted this to mean I should wait for my light to turn green. However the car beside me (two lanes turning right) stopped and then made his right turn by proceeded through the red light.
I decided to play it safe and wait for the light to turn green but proceeded through the red light after someone behind me honked because I am a little bitch.
Did I run a red light?

I may should clarify that the light was specifically for the two lanes turning right.

I think you did the right thing..... waited for the signal.

Well grammatically you are correct that you can turn right on red BUT you may not turn right on red where there is a dedicated light for right turns which appears to be the case here.

It would say "turn on green signal only" or "no turn on red" , something to that effect if you couldn't. Just operates like a stop sign when it's red.

Not the case:
quote:
A red RIGHT arrow means that youmust come to a complete stop at the marked stop line or before moving into the crosswalk or intersection. After stopping, you may turn RIGHT on thered arrow at most intersections if the way is clear. Some intersections display a "NO TURN ON RED" sign, which you must obey.

Hmmm. Quite fascinating that any road in Arkansas has 2 dedicated right turn lanes. Didn't realize they get enough traffic to warrant that. The more you know.

You can turn right on red after stop.
The signal allows you to turn right on red without stopping when the green arrow is illuminated.

On this trip I traveled through NW Arkansas. Place is booming. New construction everywhere. Pretty country to boot. Wasn't there for long but didn't see a single person of "culture".
For those saying I should've gone like the person behind who honked wanted me to I think you're right. The light is there just to help traffic move more efficiently.
When red; stop and yield then go.
When green; haul arse.
I was in the wrong for waiting for a light change.

Usually there is a sign specifying no right on red if that wasnt allowed.

And maybe they arent stuck in 1960 like some shithole traffic towns named baton rouge. Driving on the BR road system is like going back in time.

Sidenote, There is a special place in hell for people who get in the right lane at a stop light and dont turn right

frick the honker. People honk at me to go through the red light at Harrison and canal and it’s illegal. You are in a different state, play it safe. You did the right thing.

In Arkansas you can turn right on red arrow after complete stop unless there is a sigh prohibiting it. Same as Louisiana.
New York, California and North Carolina right turn on red arrow is prohibited.
New York City red light right turn is prohibited.

can always turn right on red unless there is a sign stating "no right turn on red"

False. It said right turn signal, indicating that there is a dedicated period where you can turn right. There's that exact same set up coming from University to Congress in lafayette. If it doesn't say no right turn on red, then proceed to make your turn with caution and stopping first of course.

Usually when there are two lanes turning right only the rightmost lane can turn right on red. The left lane would have to cross a lane of traffic to turn right on red and that is usually not allowed.
