I have mixed feelings about it. I’m not a lost causer and I don’t think we still need to be glorifying the confederacy. On the other hand he was a Virginian hero for the time and an icon. I think if it gets taken down it should go in a museum along with other confederate memorials.

99% of the people with a strong opinion about a statue either way are typically full of shite.

As a native Virginian this pains me greatly. It is a symbol of our past for better or worse. I feel sick to my stomach.

Agreed. It’s a piece of metal at the end of the day. It won’t change anything. I do believe we should keep the iconic ones such as the Lee Circle statue in a secure place though. It’s history like or not and you shouldn’t just discard it.

Traveler is such a majestic beast. This is a shame. Removing history does not erase it.

The only man to ever attend West Point without receiving a single demerit. A man who lived a more virtuous life in 68 years than anyone alive today.
If Lee isn't a hero then who is? LeBron? Kobe? Dr Dre?

This is a long game for the left. This won't end until all white historical figures are deemed offensive and not worthy of display. I mean, they're even exhuming bodies and relocating them for Christ's sake.

The Buddhas of Bamyan (Dari: ?????? ???????; Pashto: ? ??????? ?????) were two 6th-century[1] monumental statues of Gautama Buddha carved into the side of a cliff in the Bamyan valley in the Hazarajat region of central Afghanistan, 230 kilometres (140 mi) northwest of Kabul at an elevation of 2,500 metres (8,200 ft). Built in 507 CE (smaller) and 554 CE (larger),[1] the statues represented the classic blended style of Gandhara art.[2] They were respectively 35 and 53 m (115 and 174 ft) tall.

The statues were blown up and destroyed in March 2001 by the Taliban, on orders from leader Mullah Mohammed Omar,[5] after the Taliban government declared that they were idols.

US Grant did punk his arse and make him quit. If he was the ultimate badass, this would be the confederate states of America.

and just like that its gone. If they Decide to tear it down its just ok because this shite is allowed. No repercussions no arrest, no shame.

I'm honestly surprised that it lasted this long in Virginia.
