Damn. Some of the first songs I learned on guitar were from The Cars - great band.

them in Detroit in 1980. They actually were the warm up for Supertramp!
Saw them and Wang Chung at Alpine Valley back in 84.
Probably the worst show I’ve ever seen. Short and lots of prerecorded tracks.

Ben Orr sang about 1/2 of their songs.
Way more than half. And he sang most of their biggest hits.

I would say Keith, but we all know that will never happen!

Probably not since they have been separated since 2018
They were still close friends and they would regularly go out with one another.

That song was the first time I thought I “saw” music. I was around 8th grade, really high for one of the first times, and can still remember the images... call them hallucinations, or whatever.

I believe they were from Boston. Not a big fan but the dude was very respected in the bidness.

Maybe he died like Nelson Rockefeller (in flagrante), but with his best friend's girl?

I saw the Cars at the Centroplex in BR in the very early 1980’s. I don’t remember who opened for them. Tickets were $35 - a lot at the time. They performed for 30 minutes and left the stage. Everyone chanted for the inevitable encore. However, after a while, they turned on the lights - show was over. Very disappointing.

He had a couple of good solo albums too and produced a lot of bands. I remember exactly when and where I heard my first Cars song “Just What I Needed” and the rest of that first album.
1978 a friend I was with brought me by his friends house on Highland Road and we smoked a bunch of weed and listened to the whole album over and over on a Friday night. Saturday morning I was in the parking lot of New Generation to buy it as soon as they opened. I bought the album and the cassette and wore them out. I still have the vinyl.
I pass that house a lot on the corner of Gardere and Highland and think of that very night so long ago. That’s what that music meant to me.

Heartbeat City was the first LP I ever bought. Still love it and a ton of other Cars stuff. Major bummer.
Haven't read all the post yet. Anybody make the obvious 'he got Eddie's other ticket to paradise' joke yet?
