sometimes I think the reveille publishes stories for the sole reason of setting off people on TD

OK I googled it and yeah they did but it's not as impressive as it sounds. The staples center normally sits 15,000 but almost half of that seating wasn't used. So let's say 9,000. That's not a huge number of nerds to get excited about something for the sheer novelty of it. Those sales will probably go down as the newness wears off. See world series of poker ticket sales.

Wait, LSU has a gaming team?
I'm going to re-enroll.

The Revielle is the ultimate OT troll

I'd give this a 32.333, repeating of course, percent chance of being a success.

Nation's top gaming prospect

Horrible comparison. Way more people play video games than Paintball. Paintball is expensive as frick and you need a lot of people to play. You can game all day long from your house with others across the globe.
You should look at some of the crowds at some of the E-Sport events. They are massive and the prizes are now in the millions for these events. Youtube and Google think so much of it that they dedicated a whole new site to it and Twitch was recently bought by Amazon for a ton of money.
It's a little naive not to see that as younger generations that have gamed their whole lives get older and become consumers that they won't be willing to support e-sports as an adult too. E-sports will only continue to grow and become more mainstream.
This was a crowd for a recent Dota 2 tournament
A Starcraft tourney
Call of Duty tourney

Oakman is visually terrifying.

I watch competitive DoTA2 religiously, literally watching the Frankfurt, Germany tourney right now.
US Team wins 6.6million at Grand Finals
That was this year. 18million in total prize money. If you think that doesnt make heads turn, youre crazy. And its the prime marketing demographics for EVERYTHING, 15-30 males.
If you dont know what Steam or who Valve is, I would highly suggest watching this video. The president of this company is fing brilliant, and would be beneficial to any business man to watch it.

Spending hours practicing something every day does not make you an athlete. I don't get that at all. I think their time is valuable and they deserve praise for their dedication but it doesn't make them an athlete.

OK, didn't realize it was that big. But I stand by my assertion that it will pass. Watching people play will lose its novelty and this will pass just like the poker fervor.

Did not know it was called that. Thought you were making it up.... ridiculous.

Universities are already starting competitive ESports teams. You are starting to see countries world wide issue ESports Visa's for professional gamers.

I would hope all pro gamers make more than college athletes. How much does the average college athlete make?

Another horrible comparison. Poker is Poker and has been the same for 100s of years. Gaming is different in that there are new games released every year and new updates for old games constantly released. There is always fresh content for people to consume/watch.
