Is that really the “worse”?
In my 20s I figured it was much better to roll the dice in Iraq than be stuck in an 8 - 5.

Thank you for your service and congrats on the retirement.
I just watched a YouTube short the other day of a tanker walking around some sort of training ground picking up all kinds of bolts and track wedges and stuffing his boonie cap with them. He said that's what they did the majority of the time because you always need those spare parts but can't ever get them from the depot in a ti.ely manner. So they were just throwing a bunch of stuff onto their tankthat had fallen off other tanks and been sitting in the dirt for who knows how long. Looked like a pretty awful job.

Why did you quit after 24 yrs? Seriously I'm curious (outside of hitting a pension figure) because a career in private sector can go for 30+ yrs. Thx.

Funniest shite every was watching young privates take exhaust samples and look for soft spots in armor of the RG's. Had a mechanic give one a voltage meter to use on VIC's.

Genocide? By the Serbs? That’s a false narrative written by the West.
Serbia is awesome because it’s Orthodox and has always been amidst a sea of Islam and the godless West.

Living conditions-wise, what was the best and worst base you have been to/lived at?

Sort of a convergence of reasons.
1. Family: Tired of being gone all the time.
2. Health: Two years in a row I had surgeries. Don't want to Army if I'm a broke-dick.
3. Up or out. Next assignment looked like the Pentagon and no way out of it. Zero desire to go do that.

Best: Fort Bliss, Texas. All the GWOT money got poured into it. Had our own locker rooms in the company areas, massive gyms, pools, food court, movie theaters etc.
Worst: The cinder block barracks on the back side of Fort Stewart in 2003. Communal showers and shitters. Total dumps. They were putting injured / wounded there coming back from Iraq I think ABC or 20/20 did a story on it George W visited and they built new warrior care units and shite to try and make up for the bad press.

Congrats!!
I did 31 years and retired 3 years ago. I loved my time in, but I do not miss it. It is for the young.

People ask all the time if the military is like the movies. I tell them absolutely and that the most realistic Army movie is Office Space.

The best and worst of society are in the Army and everything in between.
I've seen people discharged for all sorts of crazy shite. The craziest one was at Fort Hood in 2008. One of our young patriots was having drug fueled swinger parties at his house and when a chick wigged out they locked her in a dog crate. She busted out and was running through the family housing area in her underwear.
So he was discharged because he allowed a captive to escape?
Asking for a friend.
And thank you for your service.

Since you were Army I’ll use smaller words than I would for my fellow AF guys.
Congrats on your retirement.
What was your favorite school?

Well done. Army army and reserves for a long time. Deployed a lot because I hated my real job (lawyer). Every time I threatened to get out got slot promoted.
The Army paid for college, paid for law school and is the central piece in a well funded retirement. And the Army is putting one of my sons through medical school at USA.
Welcome to the world of a real pension that hits the bank every month. Work if you want to, work part time or dont do a god damn thing for awhile.
Enjoy.

Two ends of the spectrum. I loved basic training. At 19 the Army was everything I wanted and I went full retard. Dog tags at the beach, unit t-shirt at thanksgiving dinner retard.
On the mental side the IO planner course. It's a wild world in the information domain especially in Eastern Europe. Cover your webcam before you beat your dick.

I’m thinking about going back in. How difficult would it be to have a dog while in a high speed unit?
Arent you a lawyer? Go Judge Advocate. I traded the ruck sack for that. If you want hooah shite go 82nd (where I started), 101 or 173.

More of a DAC fan when it comes to old school country.
