Resume (template) help...any engineering hiring managers here?

"Engineer" looking to throw a couple of resumes out. I logged onto one of the companies sites and it has my old resume from the last time I was looking ~18 months ago. It's identical to my new one minus my current job so I'm looking to at least change up the format...I didn't get the job I applied for last time, but it probably is the same hiring manager since it's a satellite office.
I looked through Apple's templates and they seem fru-fru. I want it to look sleek, but I want to stay away from varying fonts and colors.
I plan on going through the old jobs a bit, but I can't really change my experience much from a job I had 10 years ago. Also I have a job on there I had from 2000 (when I got out of college) to 2002...is that too old? It was a good job.
Should I just use plain text? Leave off the Objectives bullshite?

I think engineers would care the least about formatting and a "pretty" resume

DON'T USE A TEMPLATE! Those are the first ones that get thrown out.
seriously though, use pink paper, spray it with cologne and put a smooth selfie of yourself in a tight whip with chrome rims. HIRED

Exactly, but I want it to get through HR so they at least get it in their hands.

Forgo sleek in favor of sexy.

I can send you my resume if you want. It's sleek, easy to read, and covers a lot of space. I've changed the layout several times over the last few years but found one that really stuck.

Dude, those resumes are awesome, this is going to take longer than I thought. I'll definitely use that style.

It's the gold standard when it comes to resumes

Exactly. The first thing I look for is specific projects you have worked on and what your role was.
I would break it down by the company you worked for and then by specific project and what your involvement was on each project. This is coming from an Engineering Consultant perspective.
I care about experience and the ability to describe what you did. Don't care about GPA or if you waited tables in college.

I like that the lack of columnated formatting leaves tons of room for words. I can break out experience (job duties) from the actual projects and go into achievements within each.

$250 for resume help?
That doesn't seem like the best investment. Free advice is everywhere. Experienced friends, family, bosses, and other connections will have better input anyways.

They do the resume for you. As a professional I used their service bc A. I didn't want to do it my self, B. I didn't know what works best these days and C. It was guaranteed. It worked for me and worth more than the 250 charge. To each his own though

The online resume submission sites for bigger companies have something that searches keywords in the resume before passing it on to HR. Those keywords are usually in the job description because HR writes those also. If you think your resume wording is good enough for that specific company, just delete one job and enter the latest one
