Which restaurant?

Casa Manana in Lake Charles. Pretty bad service as well but the food wasn't bad. The charge was $4.29 on a bill for a little over $100. I let the waiter know where the rest of the tip went.

They'd get better responses if they instead offered a cash discount. Incentivize people to use a different payment method rather than discourage them from using another.

I agree but, upon seeing the fee, we always have that option.

I had a procedure done this week that was 20% cheaper if I paid in full. When I saw that, I paid in full and saved $90.00.

why doesnt the place just hide the costs in their pricing to make up for it?

Cause they’d still need a separate price list. Many people use cash, you know.

How the hell is that legal?

This was the norm all through 80s and early 90s.

I only see it rarely now, and it's usually at a franchise and not corporate owned.

This just shows nothing but how ignorant you are. That's not how it works at all.

First, you realize that businesses actually pay CC fees on sales tax? Its the total charge.

Its a racket that credit card fees are technically not allowed to be passed on. It would be considerably better if they could as a line item across the board. That's how it should be.

Given all that, yeah the restaurant can't do this.

Because it's the server's fault, right?

I’ve only seen this practice at small places that are usually run by foreigners

Yes exactly, how is it the employees fault that a business owner does this? That away to get that owner!

So you punish the server for something that is 100% out of his control? You're a really cool human.

If you take it out on the server, you're an absolute POS & deserve whatever floor spice, spit, etc. that you get served.

Rule #1: You do not frick with the people that handle your food.

I've seen it at restaurants before. We went to the beach last week and on the way home stopped to get gas in Montgomery and the gas station had separate prices for gas for cash and credit card users. The cash price was 15 cents or so cheaper than using a card.

How the hell is that legal?

How the hell should it be illegal?

I couldn't fricking care less. Don't like it? Don't be a shitty waiter at a restaurant that charges a fee for a cc.

Seen this a few times.

$2 discount if you pay with cash...something like that.

I dont get your point. If they raise prices by 3% the CC company only gets 3% or whatever of that 3% and the business pockets the rest to cover the cost of the CC fee

I mean is it not the exact same thing?

It's just how you market it.

If the waiter was shitty, then sure-tip accordingly.

But if you received quality service, why are you punishing the person who has 0 say in the policy?

yeah, punish a person who has absolutely no control over this. Why would you do that to the waiter? They have nothing to do with it.

I hope you get fired cause your coworker wrecks the company truck.

These people do it to encourage cash transactions. Easier to hide cash from the government.

Totally.

I think both would get them in trouble with credit card companies though.
