Forgot how much I hated this. Couldn't sleep last night. Served my boss within 5 minutes of her getting in, and now she is being completely different to me. Another two weeks of hell and I'm out. Had to have a super awkward, but professional, talk with our CFO. Didn't even entertain a figure for retention. Ready to GTFO.

Happy Friday, baws.

Getting walked out and still paid for the two weeks is GOATed. When I left my last job, I wasnt sure if they were going to walk me out so I put I planned an extra week off. They did so I got 3 weeks off with two paid plus PTO payout, was awesome.

I so love when they tell you to pack up and leave, don't bother with two weeks. Best policy ever.

Mine had the nerve to ask me to come in (over our Christmas vacation I might add) to "train" the person coming in for me because they fricked up the job posting and didn't get someone in before my two weeks was up.

When I said no they then tried to ask me to create a "manual" of all of the things that I did in my job.

I just laughed.

Had to give 90 days notice at my last job and they held me to every one of them. I was ready to burn that place down by the end

Anyone else think it’s strange that we, as employees, are always expected to give two weeks notice .. but it’s acceptable for an employer to just let you go without any notice? Or is it no big deal because ‘that’s the way it is’ ?

Guaranteed to always happen in my line of work due to domain admin access and keys to the kingdom on all of our security infrastructure.

That's consultant work and should come with "consultant pay".

Outside of fry cook, I think most companies do a pretty good job of offering serverence if a position is eliminated.

In my industry it takes 18-24 months to fire people. They have to be put on a formal performance improvement plan for all the legal basis covering so if you get fired you shouldn't be surprised or expect extra pay.

That would be two weeks of Me setting a new standard in “not one frick given”. They’d think I was gone already.

i usually don't give a notice when i quit for that reason. i've been let go/fired, and i never got any kind of notice

when i quit, i send them a 1 sentence email saying I quit, effective immediately

there's no law that says you have to give a 2 week notice. only reason to do that is if you may want to work at that employer again

I think it's just accepted as the way it is, but it's definitely one sided. I also think it stems from the fact that your future employer would want at least a 2 weeks notice, and would look down on an employee that was willing to quit their current job on a moments notice. As a result, we feel obligated to give the notice. Then it's up to the individual's own pride/morale compass to decide whether to work the full 2 weeks, how much effort to give, etc.

has only happened once to me. and only because I sent and email to customers whom i had a good relationship with telling them i was leaving and why.

the owner of that company used to talk shite about people after the left the company. so, i got the jump on him.

That's what I told them. I was like "I'd be more than happy to if you'd like to pay me the rate I'm making now at my new job.".

Also, had people try to reach out as late as last week (I left in December) because I had taken on a bunch of tasks that weren't typically part of my job and no one was willing to pick that up when I said I was leaving (I put my notice in as early as October).

They even gave my cell number to the new person, who I don't know. It's absolutely absurd.
