I fully expect my boss to text me questions when I am gone.. she does have my number.

After I'd left one longtime job and taken my current one, I was still getting calls and texts for over a year from the guy that replaced me, asking me if I could tell him where this or that was. What's funny is that the director was telling other people that this guy was an "upgrade" over me (he was really not happy that I decided to leave). I laughed when I found that out, because I knew the director was on the verge of being fired himself (and he indeed did get canned).

PTO is accrued time so you're either a liar or an idiot.

I realize that. I had about 2 1/2 days worth of PTO time accrued. He said it was company policy they didn’t pay that out upon separation. I didn’t feel like arguing over it, so I just cut my notice by 3 days. I didn’t need the money and was just glad to be leaving.

I learned recently these laws vary by state. In Louisiana companies are required to pay out PTO upon separation.

"PTO" has to be paid out in pretty much any state. Any time, even if deffered, that is accrued is paid time.

Only if it's earned, not given.

If a company grants an employee ____ hours of PTO to start the year, they do not have to pay it.

Anyone else think it’s strange that we, as employees, are always expected to give two weeks notice .. but it’s acceptable for an employer to just let you go without any notice?

I didn't have any heartburn about leaving my last job with no notice. I actually gave notice about a month earlier but was given a couple of days to think about it. When I left I put a resignation letter on my bosses desk and told him my laptop and badge was on my desk. I left with a clear conscience and feel great about my choice.
