I fully expect my boss to text me questions when I am gone.. she does have my number.

When I put my two weeks in at the shitty finance company, the district manager told me to leave that day. He was kind of a dick about it.

I found out a few weeks later that he put my status with the company as "Not Eligible for Rehire."

That's a status you give someone who was fired, or just quit without notice.

It was a shitty thing to do, but the district manager was a petty little frick that everyone hated.

A couple of months after I had left, the DM texted me asking about some loans that I had closed and about some upcoming renewals.

My reply was along the lines of " Good luck, motherfricker."

I hated that job so much that I almost wanted to get hired there again just so I could quit again.

It's insane how petty people get. Can see my boss in her office from where I sit, and she won't even look at me. She would usually come in and just talk and shoot the shite with me. Now she's been walking by my door and going to talk to the admin guy in the other suite

I know the feeling. My first job out of college I had a miserable manager who would give me tasks to do at 4:55 that he could have given me at 1:00. He would knock off at 2:00 on Fridays to go play golf and call me at 4:48 to make sure I was still in the office and if I didn't answer it was a grand inquisition on Monday morning on why or where I was at. Turned in my notice on a Monday and he didn't even show up for work until Wednesday. Acted all happy for me and then he just lost it probably because he was going to have to start doing actual work instead of fricking off all day. He asked me to run a backup of one of our clients file servers at like 4:55 and I had somewhere I had to be right after work so I just flat out told him 'No' that he could remote in and do that. Dude melted down. Went home that night and thought about it. Went into the office at like 10:00 AM the next morning in jeans and a tee shirt and he was waiting for me and I said screw it and turned in my keys, blackberry (this was in like 2005) and access card to server rooms told him I'm not going to work out the rest of my 2 weeks because of his attitude and bizarre behavior. He threw an absolute tantrum in front of the whole IT Dept. Walking out of the building was the best feeling I have ever had. Had he been more reasonable I would have worked out the full two weeks but I wasn't going to sit around and be treated like shite the rest of my notice.

Years ago I watched a guy tell the owner to F himself and called him a demented piece of shite when he walked out and never came back. He was only there a few weeks and was a weirdo. I admired his exit

When I put in my notice at a law firm, the managing partner asked me if I could stay through the end of May (it was either the first part of May or last days of April I gave my notice). I said I would ask my new boss when he needed me to start...before I got back to him he sent an email to the entire firm that I was leaving for a new job and had agreed to stay through Memorial Day. I went to HR and told them I did not say that, and now I would be leaving the next day.

It was my first job in a new role and my first employment contract. Mistakes were made, lessons learned. I don't think I'll agree to something that extreme ever again. Much better terms at my current job

I learned decades ago to never work for a family owned business. If you aren’t in the family, there is zero future there.

Depends where you are in the technology industry. If you are high enough that you have administrative access to all the critical systems then fair enough, accounts disabled and garden leave here we come. The Systems Admin job is to protect companywide data. You have the keys to the kingdom. You're leaving, you no longer consider them your top priority. Nothing personal, just how it is.

Moreover, the purpose of the BS “exit interview” that some HR departments perform is to see if you are going to a competitor. Typically, I’ve seen with sales and marketing people accounts are disabled, with CRM access immediately revoked, badges confiscated, and they are immediately walked out of the building by security, without fulfilling their 2 weeks notice. They’re typically given 2 week's pay, plus earned PTO time.

It is not always about nefarious activities, it is sometimes about commercial confidentiality.

I left my last job back in June 2021. I gave them a three weeks notice as I handled a bunch of things and wanted to leave on a good note. I was miserable for those three weeks with daily meetings with my manager who would proceed to cry when she talked to me because I was leaving. She wasn’t sad that I was leaving just knew they had fricked up and she was now going to be responsible for things she had no idea about because they just kept piling it on me and it was getting done. By the third week and had checked out so when she called for a meeting to go over the same shite again I finally declined and said if she didn’t have it by then, then she was going to learn it in another meeting. I tried to be reserved when they would talk to me before I left, but that last week I was just shooting from the hip about the shitty pay and other things. She asked if they could call if they had questions and being a formality (I thought) I said yes. Went in my last day and gave my keys and left before 10 AM. Had a family vacation planned for the next week and was then going to start my current job. 6:30 fricking am on the Monday after I leave they are calling and asking questions. I told them to stop calling and to figure it out as I had left manuals and standard work processes for all this shite. Former boss called again around 8 to ask another question. I told her I would be sending her a 1099 and my consulting rate was $250 per hour with a four hour minimum per call. She got the hint and stopped calling.

I had to do this last year. Worked at this office with nice people for 4 years. I did not have a plan on how to say it? when to say it? how to approach the situation.

I used to get along with the Office Manager pretty well. Walked into her office at 6 pm on a Friday. I tell her: hey I have to tell you something.

She responded: You found another job and you are leaving us?

I go: yes, and I would like to give 2 weeks notice.

That was pretty easy after putting so much thought into it.

My last job asked me for 4 weeks... I had let them know several times before that I was applying for my current job to be prepared but they did nothing, so I gave them the rest of the week plus one. I know I should have given plus two weeks, but I hated that place and couldn't wait to be out.
