there is an effort afoot to prevent Mitch from violating the City Charter by arbitrarily extending his stint as Mayor, after this year's mayoral election in November, all the way to the Summer of '18, just so he can say he was "mayor" during the Tri-Centennial.

I've seen some stuff regarding this, what are the details?

Really wish we could do something quickly in court to stop these from being put up for auction (where I assume they will go to his buddy john Cummings)

There's also a petition online already with 35,000 signatures to calling for Jeff Sessions to open up a Federal Investigation

I think what Landrieu is thinking is that if he can make a lot of noise to gloat about the four being removed, that will shut BLM up about Andrew Jackson.

If anything, its more likely to have the opposite effect. SJW's don't quit when they get their way, they find something new to be offended by and bitch about. The Jackson statue and the street names are going to be a big issue soon.

Seriously, why does anyone care? The city wasn't visited because of those monuments. People come there to party. That has zero to do with the history there. I lived there and barely noticed them unless they were used for directional purposes....half of you cry babies probably don't even live in New Orleans proper....I would wager most of you are in the burbs.

Because it was a giant waste of money. A huge waste of time. Put the city in the spotlight when it doesn't need to be there. Oh. And it was extremely divisive.

They're history dummy. They are statues that made New Orleans unique. The actual "historical culture" and it's remnants in New Orleans is what makes it different than a lot of other places. Why come to the French Quarter while you can get good food and get drunk in plenty other places?

People come there to party

Certainly, but a lot of people come for other reasons than to get drunk like a dumbass.

People like you make the movie Idiocracy seem like a coming reality.

My point was no one visited there to see the monuments. Not that anyone avoided the city because they were there. The monuments are/were insignificant. No one will stop visiting because they are gone. Unless Jell-O shots and hurricanes are abolished the same people will continue to visit.

They won't be visiting if the murder rate stays high, which Mitch has completely ignored in favor of statues.

And out point is that the move was divisive,a waste of money, a waste of time, bad publicity, oh. And it took police and firefighters away from their ACTUAL jobs.

For once, just this once, I can stomach the OT obsession with trashy. Just this once.

And the statues have been up for over 100 years. Where has the outrage been?

Ohhhh that's right. They needed the WHITE MAN to tell them what to be offended by. I forgot.

Maybe so. I just wish the OT would let this go. It has inundated this board for weeks now. I come here for humor, wyhi threads etc. The poli board fanatics are turning this into a boring echo chamber.

There is history all over the city dumbass. These statues just being a tiny piece of fabric in the grand scheme, but once you start unraveling the material, the whole thing comes undone. Some (non trash) come for other reasons than to get plastered every day.

You guys repeatedly keep putting this on Mitch when the city council of Nola voted to removed the monuments and their has been a push by the Monumental Task Committee to remove these statues for years. Mitch could not change this if he wanted. they city council has more power than the major on issues like this.
