Dr. Simeone and her colleagues carried out a study in mice and human patient samples to examine the role of a gene called "ataxia-telangiectasia group D complementing" (ATDC) in pancreatic tumor formation.

However, when the researchers removed the ATDC gene, none of the cancer-prone mice developed cancer. What is more, acinar cells did not even progress to the ADM or PanIN stage.

well that’s not right.
I mean it’s nice they they are attractive and wear weird clothes but should they really get cancer protection before little kids and parents?

This is a tricky slope
There have been some trials working with the CRISPR and gene targeting techniques with some success. How that will work in humans will be interesting. They are starting to use CRISPR to try to treat certain cancers in clinical trials.

This is cool, but how its put, "gene whose action is crucial for the development of this cancer" makes it sound like the body has self-destruction genes to kill us off.

Here are a list of CRISPR clinical trials with the information on those trials. Very interesting read if y'all have time. Praying they have a break through with this stuff. I know a few posters on here are battling PC right now.

It...does.
That is part of what cancer is....unrestrained growth combined with a shut down of programmed cell death.
Its heavily part of everything in your body, all the way from fetal development.
For instance, when you get sunburnt to the point of the skin peeling off, it is caused by mass programmed cell death.
While the cells probably could have hobbled along, it can pick up on the damage caused by UV light to the DNA. While repair systems exist, once it hits a certain point, its safer to just kill the cell or risk the damaged systems that would turn it into cancer remaining.

My impression is that this isn't a treatment.
It helps keep the oncogene switch from being flipped. Not a cancer firebomb.

The body most definitely has “self-destruct” genes that are supposed to work when a cell becomes cancerous. It’s those genes that if mutated that often grow into full blown cancer.
