Whatever it is they are charging the climbers for this rescue, it's not enough.

That’s a H145 operated by the sheriff, about 11-13 million depending on the equipment, plus about $1500/he flight time, the amount of flight training to do these ops is ridiculous, however most agencies do this as a public service,,,the hiker likely won’t pay a cent

NO ONE, would ever want to be in that situation.
Incredible skill and coordination from countless hours of training shown by that crew.
Crazy to think that's significantly cheaper than an ambulance ride.

quote:

California, Idaho, Maine, New Hampshire, Oregon, and Utah all have statutes in place that allow them to charge individual(s) for SAR costs, however in practice this only happens if the individual(s) were acting negligent and is not often utilized due to public-relations issues

If it’s the Coast Guard or the National Park Service (NPS), then they pick up the bill. Or rather, the taxpaying citizens of the United States do. Neither agency has a policy for charging for SAR missions.

I guess if you break it down, while the cost to the person is significantly cheaper, every single person in Riverside County is paying for a service that probably only a few people a year use. Kinda like everyone paying the tax in EBR for ambulance that most people don’t utilize. Same thing in New Orleans.

Note that the rescuers never hook into the climbers gear they are already wearing. They only rely on their own safety rigging.

Yawn. Broad daylight, no one shooting at them, easy load out, while pretty technical I didn’t see anything that scary.

My son does all that at night, while being shot at, in a sand storm.

The guys that do this rescue work for a living love getting the call because it’s the best “training” evolution they can get.

That said, people who participate in activities where they may need this service should have to post a “rescue bond” to keep from being freeloading, welfare recipients.

Why don't they have a mini crane like extension to kickout the guy dangling?

I don't know much about this stuff. Always see the guy in the helicopter using his arm to push the cable out more

This would keep the rotors further from the rocks right?

I know two baws who were drinking down at their camp and one had a heart attack. Baw A wouldn’t drive Baw B back to the dock bc he had too many DUIs, so they called sheriffs office. By the time the sheriff got them to the dock it had been a couple hours. They had an ambulance and a helicopter waiting for him. Baw A informed them that Baw B had made it a couple hours…just ride him in the ambulance and save him the helicopter ride bill. They did and Baw B made it.
