The media is driving the panic. And panicky people are demanding the state and local governments "do something".

So they are.

Imagine thinking reporters aren’t vital to democracy.

Realizing they are mostly yellow journalists with a complete bias and little professionalism and not interested in informing the population - just trying to argue about non-issues to be a pain in the asp.

He has a +12 rating on his Coronavirus leadership according to an ABC poll released today.

The only reason you and others are defending the media's antics is because they're going after Bad Orange Man.

Going after him?

The question today was the equivalent of a sports reporter asking Coach O after a tough loss, "What can you do better next week?". Coach O would talk about hard practices, accountability, players keeping their heads up, coaches needing to do a better job, etc. He wouldn't turn to the reporter and call them bad at their job for asking the question!

And yes, I know you Coach O hasn't had to talk about a loss in over a year (assholes lol) but just using him as an example.

So you lumping all reporters into one?

You know the old saying about "you are the company you keep"?

I've had and continue to have my share of experience with reporters. I would say 90% of the ones I have dealt with are exactly what was said above, TRASH. they will ask questions and then take parts of answers from different ones and make it into what they think will get the crowd excited. They're all fricking trolls!

Which was a complete outlier to other recent polling.

Honest reporters are.

Partisan, dishonest reporters are a threat to democracy.

You're incorrect.

Harris Interactive was actually higher than ABC's. How does it feel to be wrong and know that people love Trump despite you yelling into the wind?

The question was a complete softball intended for Trump to hit a home run. "What do you say to the millions of Americans who might be scared right now?". That's not a gotcha question. It's set up on a fricking tee for him to speak in platitudes about American greatness, resiliency, teamwork, etc.

Instead of offering assurances, he goes off on the reporter for lobbing him a softball?

Exactly. Was going to post the same thing. FFS, people, this was an opportunity for Trump to reassure the people, instead he throws a tantrum. And people applaud this crisis leadership? I know I feel better after seeing that the president is completely unhinged.

The only way it was a 'gotcha' question is if the president can't manage to string together a few coherent sentences. Oh, right...

What does that have to do with my post you quoted?

I mean do you filter everything through your opinion of Trump?

Serious question, how is this a terrible question? This wasn't a hard question to answer. VP Pence would have hit this question out of the park.

Watching Trump's press conference, I couldn't help but cheer Trump on when he went off on the reporters for scaring the American people and sensationalizing the virus.

I agree with the OP 100%. The mass media is fricking this up more than the virus ever could. These sensationalist headlines spark fear. For awhile, I genuinely thought we were getting honest information. I felt like the President, Congress and the media were all helping to spread real information. But here it is the end of the week, and it's beginning to look like that good faith has fizzled.

You're right, what the president should have been doing is trying to scare the public until they were rioting in the streets.

You said states and cities are reacting to public outcry, driven my media sensationalism, while Trump, by speaking completely incorrectly and incoherently about everything, is just trying to settle down the public. States and cities are reacting to Dear Leader telling them to handle business, not to sensationalist media.

The problem is you're leaving out the parts the reporter added in after asking that question and before Trump could answer.

What was the purpose of adding in death statistics to that question?

Because it's utterly worthless and no direct response would lead to useful information for the public.
