Daughter and SO are renting a truck from NOLA to Nashville.

Uhaul? Penske? Tips on best deals?

If you have AAA, Penske. I have used it twice for moves between states. Nothing compares to price.

I've used Uhaul many times. I don't know rates because it has been awhile. I am sure they are all pretty comparable though. I know Uhaul advertises for having a better lower ramp.

You're just wasting money if you rent. When I moved, I used a stolen garbage truck to haul everything.

Do you think you're Penske material?

I have rented Penske before with no issues. Truck was clean and drove like a charm.
Also, get a liftgate if possible. Those slide out ramps can suck with large items.

Was just researching this as well since we're moving to Missouri.

Right now, we're leaning towards Budget.

Cheapest and haven't heard many complaints.

Lift gate trucks are hard to come by. Unless things have changed, you could not even reserve one.

Check out the cost of Pods/go-minis/etc. Virtually unlimited time to pack/unpack and they deliver it for you.

Spend the extra coin to have someone else load, haul, & unload.

Trust me it’s worth it.

Back in the day I used Penske to do three moves. No complaints at all.

On a related matter, the first time I packed/unpacked myself. The second time I had help from friends/relatives. That was better but still took awhile.

But the third time I paid a couple hundred bucks to a couple of Mexican/Honduran/whatever guys I found. That's some of the best money I've spent in my life, they got me packed and unpacked in record time. All I had to do was point to stuff and mutter "si" or "no". Highly recommended.

U-Haul is garbage. Maybe for local moves. Last time I used them I reserved a diesel to get through mountains heading into CA. Got a gasoline truck that broke down twice between NOLA and San Diego. Went about 10 miles an hour up the hills in CA. Used Penske and trucks are new, nice and all diesel trucks. Didn’t cost much more to rent and very worth it.

U-Haul always seemed like a crap shoot if you got something nice to drive or a beaten up truck
