Remembering Katrina, Ivor Van Heerden

In 2004 I took a random disaster science management class taught by this South African guy. The entire semester was about how bad it would be if a large hurricane hit New Orleans. We had the project manager for contraflow come speak to us, we got to see exactly how bad the damage would be based on size of the storm surge,even had to make up our own evacuation plan. It was interesting, but it was mostly just a bs class to get a humanities credit at the time...until I see the guy all over the news the next August. Crazy times.

The frickin moronic LSU scientific community, and the rest of our frickin literate (idiot fricktard academics) in Louisiana railroaded Ivor out of the state.
Examples like this, about what happened to Ivor, are what make the idiot fricktards running this state among some of the dumbest mother frickers on the face of the earth.

Took the same class in fall 2003 I believe. Never thought I would use any of that. 2 years later I was coordinating the pumping of water out on France road near lakefront airport a week after Katrina. Dude knew what he was talking about and wasn't even an engineer.

I forget it it were 2003 or 2004, but I sat in on a lecture/discussion about a near miss for New Orleans and the potential consequences had it happened.
I remember Van Heerden and Jay Grimes participating, but not leading.
Their models laid out almost exactly what Katrina did just a couple years later

and LSU was sucking the cocks of the government and Insurance industry and was hoping to cash in on Katrina litigation by doing work for State Farm etc, until they realized how fricking unpopular it was and several major donors threaten to pull the plug, so Snake Fram and ALLsnake went to Texas A&M to be their whores.

Here is the Harry Shearer film on Katrina. It's about an hour and forty minutes, but well worth the watch. Ivor Van Heerden is basically the "star".

My current professor for Coastal Zone Policy is Dr. Paul Kemp who worked with Ivor Van Heerden. They did a lot of the storm surge modeling post-storm basically proving the Corps of Engineers responsible for the flooding of NOLA. The corps were immune from being sued due to the levees breaking but they could be sued for building the MRGO Canal. Models showed that without the MRGO and the damage the canal did to the marsh, New Orleans wouldn't have flooded from the Lake Borgne direction.
My teacher is currently on Jindal's shitlist because he refused to back off from the lawsuit holding oil and gas companies responsible for screwing up the coast and wetlands.

everyone knows that the O&G canals sped up coastal erosion. If you look at a coastal map of Louisiana you see tons of crisscrossed canals. Thing is the oil industry is the biggest employer here and because of the jobs they provide everyone will look the other way.
