Registering new 'luxury' vehicle in Montana. For example, $49 Montana Registered Agent is an option to avoid state sales tax. But will your insurance company have an issues with covering you in Louisiana while registered in Montana?

Why is your thought limited to luxury vehicles only. You can suggest people cheat the tax man on non-luxury vehicles as well.

Is it a luxury vehicle or a truck?

The thought was sarcasm...
The out of state registration was targeted for RV purchases, luxury cares, etc... but reading posts on the OT about guys purchasing a 60k truck is why I threw out the luxury tag.
You're right, I shouldn't profile.

A lot of RV owners do this with a Montana corporation to avoid the high taxes in their states. Not sure about the insurance, but it would make sense that the policy would have to be written in the state the vehicle is registered. You can search the RV boards, there are always questions on there about the whole Montana corporation and registration thing.

Call a fed ex store, rent a pobox with street address.
Incorporate a llc.
Use that address. Register vehicle in llc and insurance.

I assumed the guys who have Montana plates on their super cars did something like this.
Insurance on those things is usually through Hagerty or someone specializing in high value cars so it doesn't matter what state you're in as theyre not looking to get the cheapest state minimum coverage. Or at least I hope they aren't.
