LINK
Phil Rosenthal, Tribune columnist, celebrates New Year's Eve with a list of what's wrong. It's not bad that there's a picture of John Gruden at the top of the column. But
somehow I missed the addition of the b word to my lexicon of not-to-use words.
Happy New Year.

Here then is an airing of just some of the grievances, the year in rebuke: Idiots, idiots, idiots:
Four racists were ejected from a Blackhawks game at the United Center in February after taunting the Capitals’ Devante Smith-Pelly, a black Canadian, with chants of “basketball, basketball, basketball.”
Here’s hoping they were sent back home to the century they came from.

First of all, thanks for the link.
And “basketball, basketball, basketball” isn’t racist, it’s stereotyping.

Come on, it’s not a hard connection to make.

Pretty classless and I am usually at the far end of these spectrums of sensitivity.

Yeah I’d actually argue that’s more racist that simply using slurs. That’s going out of one’s way to make someone feel stereotyped and unwelcomed.

All I got out of this is that basketball is racist for not allowing enough other races to play.

He should’ve just chanted” water polo” back at them

It's like chanting Hockey at a white basketball player....

I played HS basketball for a private school in NOLA. We only had 2-3 black kids on the team. I can't remember the school we were playing at, may have been Bonnabel, but over 90% of their team and fans were black. During timeouts, they would have a group of students run out on the court dressed in our school sweaters and play tennis. Of course they didn't know what the frick they were doing, but that's what made it pretty funny. They were totally stereotyping us, but we got a good laugh out of it. Then again, we weren't a bunch of bitches about it. We were most surprised at the fact that they had any students actually turn out to the game.

In this day and age that would be perfectly acceptable. You are allowed to make fun of white males without fear of consequences.

It is okay for minorities to do this because you are in a position of power for being white... or that is what has been told to me
