it was a case involving allegations of rape by minors in Steubenville, Ohio. it became a big deal after "Anonymous" started making threats, accusing people of covering it up and shielding football players. threatened/named a bunch of innocent kids who were just at the party. started a national internet witch hunt of social media (of minors). etc etc
turned out the case was investigated from the get go and since it was a juvenile matter, it wasn't exactly public. kids were convicted

Did they properly finger the guy that made the posts? But it turns out he did work for the care giver but in a different capacity than he stated?
If “yes” to both of those, it isn’t a “fail” at all. Even if the guy is an orderly or janitor and he posts stuff like that, the employer should be made aware.
