I wore a suit every day for 15 years and always on my feet (hotel biz)...best advice I ever got was to get 2 pairs and keep them on trees. go to any nice men's store and look at few and get a feel for the style you like. Once you know what you want the look to be then shop for quality and comfort

Check shoebank.com for factory defect Allen Edmonds.
What ever you do, don't get rubber soles or square toes(unless you're a ponytailed IT guy).

Mezlan, Allen Edmonds or Magnanni.

It's all in how you take care of what you buy, not how much you spend

Get those white shoes that retarded people wear. People will feel sorry for you and you'll go farther with your company.

Spend $70 on dress shoes if you want to look like a used car salesman

Eventually soles wear out, this will happen much faster if you only rotate a couple of pairs. If your soles were glued, you throw them in the trash. If they are Goodyear welted or Blake stitched, you are good to resole. Also, the better quality leather will always look and polish much better. You get what you pay for.

If you have 500, you could go on ebay and find two pairs of Allen Edmonds within that price range.

just make sure they are not square at the tip. you aren't checking for right angles!

First investment I made in my career was two pairs of shoes - brown zegnas and black ferragamos. Get them resoled and fixed up about once a year. Both are still looking great.

It made me laugh because it reminded me of an old Cheers episode with Cliff Claven.

Johnston & Murphy
I have a pair that is 28 years old and are still comfortable and look pretty damned good.

When it comes to shoes, you get what you pay for. At minimum, Allen Edmonds Fifth Avenue or a close model. They can be totally rebuilt for $120, and this can be don about 7-8 times.
A good shoe wears better, feels better, and usually looks better.
For the last 10 years, my daily suit shoe is an AE. I now have about 20 pair that I rotate around, with about half of them being casual wing-tip style shoes that I wear with jeans.
I have wooden shoe trees in all of them. It helps them keep their form over the years.
after wearing AE shoes for an extended period, I put on an old pair of Johnstons and it was night and day. They felt thinner and less absorbant of ground shock.
FWIW...

Get a pair of Alden's. I prefer a blucher to a balmoral. They are slightly more casual and can be worn with something besides dress pants. Don't listen to the people saying don't spend $500. Get American made. Either Allen Edmonds or Alden.

Bruno Magli and Ferragamo are the only dress shoes I wear

Id rather buy one pair of shoes every 5 years than 5 pairs every year.
WTF are you going to be doing that would require you to go through 5 pairs of dress shoes in a year??
