I've had this in an older Jeep for years without a problem.

We put an 8 inch MB Quartz powered sub under seat in my Yukon denali years ago. It has been perfect. Great sound, works perfect with bose system.

Don't forget to get a removal face radio and take it everywhere with you.

A subwoofer is a crucial piece to any audio system. Not to knock pictures off the wall when you pass by, but for playing low frequencies in the music. Any good car audio system has a subwoofer, even from the factory.

Absolutely correct. But you won't convince the numpties in here. Those of us who are "audiophiles" really enjoy a complete listening experience much the same way that a guy who likes red Corvettes HAS a red corvette.

My sub is a small JL 8. I call it "listening bass", as opposed to "show off" bass. Four pair of Focal separates with their crossover round out the system. It is crispy clean.

As stated a couple of times, a Rockville unit is a decent alternative in that its compact, easy to install and the base level can be controlled from the driver's seat.

If it was the 90s I would want 2 15"s in the trunk JL audio or Kicker.

Now I just want something cheap. I have a cheap under seat and upgraded my factory woofer.

Speaking my language, go get the crutchfield

What is trashy about car audio? Home audio has a subwoofer too, you know.

It’s trashy when someone is blaring music with several 15s in their trunk and waking up the whole neighborhood. I agree. But OP specifically said he just wants some low end for his music.

If you heard your favorite music in my car, you would be blown away with the sound quality and change your tune.

Theoretically, you could sit on top of a speakerbox.

Having a subwoofer to accommodate lower frequencies is a good idea for a well rounded sound system. Some tweeters and 6x6s or 6x9s and you've got all of the frequencies covered, whatever genre of music you listen to.

The key is to use your EQ responsibly and not just crank the bass end of the spectrum all the way up to where the sound is clipping and your trunk is rattling like some ghetto hood rat. No one wants to hear that shite. It was annoying as frick as a high schooler in the late 90s early 00s and it still is now.

But if you want to hear the full spectrum of sound as richly as possible, OP has the right idea.

When I would spend money as a HS/college kid on quality speakers for my car, I'd use tunes like Sublime "Doin' Time" or RHCP "Higher Ground" to test things out and get that extra thump that I was looking for without getting into the window/trunk rattling ghetto arse hood rat range of bass frequency.

No one wants to hear whatever stupid fricking rap song you're listening to. No one.

Found a sub woofer that ain’t fitting under your seat, but could qualify as junk in the trunk.
