Stock Grand Nationals are like unicorns. You got a stock one put it in a jar. I would love to just see one stock that was not modified at all.

Yes, CTSV wagon and E39 M5.

Also,
Bmw: mcoupe, 2011 M3 Sedan, almost any M3 Comp Package
Mercedes: e63 wagon, R129 SL
Audi: B5 S4 (coupe and avant), RS4s
Ford: '03 Cobra, Boss 302
Jeep: LJ Rubicon

These are what I can think of that weren't all that special or difficult to attain upon release yet these specific models will command a premium versus similar models.

The CTSV wagon MT prices will shock anyone.

Cars with a $100k+ sticker price don't really ring as surprise classics to me, but I've always liked the GTR.

As for an American potential surprise, I'll add the Ford Flex:

I like the retro T-birds from 2002-05.

Especially the ones with the two-tone interiors.

I think the E39 M5 is the best looking M5, it'll be a classic too.

I believe it's the best car they have produced and it has been downhill for them since. I regret selling my e39 M5 a couple of years ago for a new 550.

Not until the Holden is 20 years old do you even have that option under US law. Thanks Obama.

No mention of the Toyota Supra? Aren't those already worth way more than they were when they came out 20 years ago?

I'd say pretty much any Pontiac will gain some "classic" status since they went under, pretty much like AMC has.

For everyday type "family" rides, I would throw in the Dodge Magnum and Mercury Marauder as candidates. Maybe fit in a Lincoln Towncar in that category as well.

For sports cars, there are just a huge catalogue to choose from.

I also imagine the 2 seaters from Honda and some of the more popular Japanese makers: cars like RX-8, SVX, Maxima, Corolla etc.. Personally I would throw money on the Eclipse/Talon family since Mitsubishi is most likely done for as well.

You can put the Pontiac G8 GXP in that group as well.

Any of y'all consider that we might not be driving cars in 20 or 30 years? Some other form of individual or mass transportation may rule the day.

Sorry but they just don't make 'em like they used to and I don't think any of these will be 'classics'. Yes, some people will pamper their trashy pontiacs and keep them in decent condition for 100 years, but they won't hold a candle to the older classics

I think these will be classics one day. They are still in the "old and shitty but not yet a classic" category:

Boxy SUVs will always age well IMO, especially from that time period where electronics won't lessen the chance of using them long into the future.

I think even a lot of modern SUVs (pretty much all Cherokees and Grand Cherokees) will hold their own for a while, I'm just not sure the newer ones will be as viable in the future for this sort of category.

EAS E39 M5

You are not alone in that thought. The E39 was what a German super sedan was all about. Subdued styling yet the stance and the lipped wheel made it look sinister. The V10 cars were a good attempt at pushing the boundaries but didn't work out. The new ones are nice but are just bloated versions of their former self. The M3 had a longer run, but the new version has the same problem as the M5.

I saw a new Alpina B6 last week. Very impressive looking car.
