People have no shame at all

They want everyone else to find their vacation with some baseball mixed in

On a completely different note, it would be fascinating if someone did a study outlining how traveling all around the country and never having weekends to enjoy actually affects the OTHER kids in the family.

We always had fundraisers but we sold something...jambalaya, auction items....we never just asked for straight cash

Yes, it's shameful. YOU are responsible for your kids sports expenses. Shameful, disgusting, and embarrassing to ask the public to pay for lil Jimmy's sports.

I don’t ever ask for money. We just donate if we know the family asking and it’s for a good cause.

Of all the things we donate to, helping out kids doesn’t strike me as being less than worthy. I’d much rather donate money for things for kids than for things for adults.

Do you feel this way about people donating to churches, schools, etc.?

A guy was selling raffle tickets at work for a Milwaukee power tool set. I did not buy one. If they did Saturday hot plates maybe.

I'll gladly overpay for a good or service for kids.

But, I'm not just "donating".

They weren’t offering to sell candy bars or do a car wash or pizza coupon books, etc, or offer any service or product of any kind, they just wanted money.

This is how we fund raise in private school, but for a team to do so is absurd. Do not donate or if you do give $5.

I’ve bought many a raffle ticket. At least the person had to come ask me in person and offered something.

Company donates $500

Bump up the price of your next job with them $500.

This is easy stuff. It's like some of you have never done business before.

My daughter’s cheer coach made her provide 15 emails and phone numbers of people to spam asking for donations. It was mandatory.

Sounds like the daughters time has freed up to find a new coach.

Based on that, I might as well send you a link to donate to my son's private school tuition account.

JFC what are people thinking (or not thinking in this case)?!?!?

Has anyone been asked to contribute to a kid's attending Math Camp or Physical Sciences camp?

If I sent a solicitation to a vendor supplier at my employer I would be summarily dismissed for cause…

I always throw them a few dollars to help out if it’s someone we know. I happen to think youth sports are really, really important for overall development. Of all these things we get asked to donate to, it’s probably one of the ones that actually moves the needle in terms of helping people.

But only worth giving to people you know, right?

If you want to have a fundraiser where you provide something in return, while still not something I would be involved with or buy from, then at least you are providing something to the person supplying the money.

Asking for donations is begging others to pay for your recreation/vacation, and I will and have told people that to their face

Well, yes. I don’t give people money unless I know where it’s going (except for the theft of my income through taxes).

I’d rather just give them money.
