Anyway, they're stupid fricks for doing this. In this case, "the authorities removed 386 dogs from the truck and took them into protective custody".

They think the more the dog suffers before it dies the better the meat is.

“Hate the Chinese” is an extreme reaction. You can hate what the nation of China is known to do. You should hate it. All of it. “Hating the Chinese” is lazy and ignorant posting.

Do you think it's weirder for the Chinese to eat dogs, or for Indians to make pets out of rats?

Trying to be fair, Westerners and especially Americans tend to anthropomorphize dogs. I love dogs, so I'm as guilty of this as anyone.

Not all cultures do this, obviously. Supposedly some Indians find it odd Westerners give dogs names.

It also indicates how much wealthier the West is, and has been since at least Columbus: we don't have to eat dogs to get meat.

But it's an unsettling reminder of what we're capable of at any time.

There's an old Tyrone Power movie where he plays the officer of a luxury liner that sinks, and a few passengers make it to a lifeboat (a la Titanic). One matronly lady brings her pet poodle into the lifeboat, and a guy objects. But Power lets the dog stay on board. When the guy demands to know why he's letting the dog take up precious space, Power replies, "Because we can't eat you."
