I’ve visited a northshore realtor twice, let them know what I was looking for and what price range - the first visit, they showed us three houses, all their own listings. We let them know that none matched what we told them that we were looking for. We asked that they expand their search beyond their own listings. Zero response and zero further effort.

I went back by a little more than a year later asking them to help search for vacant land to build on. They just put me on some automatic email scam that send me every listing that posts to the MLS.

I called a second realtor and gave them our requirements and again, zero, crickets.

The are that we are looking in is not where we live now. We are unfamiliar with the area. We would like some help in picking a good area, at least an area that doesn’t flood etc. I don’t need EVERY listing to be sent to my email.

Is there such a thing as hiring a person to actually help you find a house??

Just shut up and give us our 3% on whatever you ultimately decide on.

Our wife’s, who have never worked, and our kids deserve that 8th vacation this year.

Every realtor I've ever met is a bona fide weasel and I'm friendly with like 3 or 4

Eta never used one. Just known as acquaintances who have recounted their trials and triumphs

You know male realtors?

Now THAT is rare.

Whenever I bought a house, the realtor had Jack shite to do with choosing the house outside of arranging a showing for someplace I was already interested in.

From the last purchase, she was good at helping structure the deal to lower the price so the seller would take it but she also dropped the ball on some language in the listing that should have gotten us thousands to remodel one particular room.

OTOH she totally dropped the ball on the selling the other house on a number of fronts and pissed us off so badly that people who used her before and had recommended we use her ended up cutting ties with her.

There are many that suck, but finding a good one can be really helpful. Those are just tough to find unfortunately.

So what percentage of the glamour shot realtors will give it up to close the deal?

Depends on the market. It's hot right now. Not many. But in the next correction, plenty. 35% I'd say.

In 10 years (probably less) they will be like travel agents are today.

Go online and look at flood zone maps.
Get the Latitude, Longitude and compare to the locations you would like to live. Also look at drainage. This can cause flooding (New Orleans) issues too.

This is some shady shite. They were just trying to double their money by getting both sides of the commission.

They have so much business, they don't care about customer support.

Some suck but most are insanely busy right now for one thing - they have their pick of potential clients a the moment. I'm not sure what your price range is but like any business, they will cut off new clients with lower potential returns. Good ones are in very high demand at the moment.

I find it comical that the "realtors suck" thread went pages and this one asking just what the hell they do for their money is DOA.
