This fig just declared that more people of color are killed in traffic accidents involving fatalities because the design of roadways is racist. Can’t make it up.

EVs are for city dwellers. They serve that purpose and that purpose only.
Not really. With the exception of towing they work great out in the country. Especially if you have the space to put in your own solar for charging. It’s peak independence. I’ll be switching all our ranching equipment over as it becomes available and never need another diesel delivery again.

Gonna haul all of those backyard chickens to market that you raise on your 1/2 acre ranch?

I don’t haul the cattle to auction, they send 18 wheelers to come get them. The 2 times a year I need to move the horses for the winter I’ll just pay someone. I don’t need an F350 for just that.

Not unless there is a paradigm shift in technology, infrastructure and generation. It's completely impractical on all levels.

The utility of a car is being able to drive where you want, when you want, on the time schedule you want, with relative ease and efficiency. The biggest issue I have with electric cars, at this point in time, is they can't deliver that baseline functionality. This is analogous to having a smart phone that can't make phone calls.
EVs aren't for everyone, but they're very practical for a shite ton of people.
Posted on 4/16/23 at 7:02 pm to Tarps99
This is analogous to complaining about a 1992 era mobile phone weighing five pounds and not being able to connect to the internet. EV technology right now is a niche market and a test bed for future iterations. It's not for everybody, or even most, right now, but it is the future. At some point EV's will do all those things they don't do now. Until then, the internal combustion engine is still widely available.

How?

Batteries don't last forever. The F150 lightning battery is 30k to replace. That's what a F150 cost 8 years ago.

You’ve just stated what everyone already knows.
EVs are cool technology but they are not yet practical and the infrastructure is not set up for it yet.
They are the future along with engines. Why people try to make you think engines will vanish is beyond me.
You would think the plan would have been 10 years ago to go all in on building infrastructure, then let the cars trickle into the marketplace.
Instead they are going nuts on putting requirements and expectations on car manufacturers to transition ASAP.
It is a car that is cool to have, but not something to rely on.

I would love to talk to someone that has put 200K on a tesla original battery.
I don’t have one but I do have IE reports on tesla cell degradation and monitor Tesla assets. What would you like to know? Degradation %?

I'd love to know who's buying an EV with 100k miles on it and out of warranty. You can get 20k+ for a 4 Runner at that point. I wouldn't touch an older EV

It’s actually easier to tell how much life an EV ESS unit has left in it than ICE. It’s quantifiable and you can pull it on the dash.

You will need the diesel to run the generator when the power goes out and good luck buying an electric tractor or combine.

I have an off grid capable solar array. I’ll be fine.

You are a complete and total moron if you even remotely believe that. The carbon footprint of an EV when including production, electricity generation and disposal is equal to or greater than ICE over product life. You have bought the 2nd biggest lie this century. The 1st being climate change and our ability to influence it.

The vast majority of EV owners don’t give 3 fricks about their carbon footprint. They buy them because they’re high tech, fun cars that work for their lifestyle.

The luddites really won't let go of this one will they? I haven't even seen someone on reddit say something along these lines. I'm sure they exist but not to the extent this board thinks

dont forget you will get a huge charge to your credit card if you dont bring it back with a full charge as well.
Same with an ICE vehicle. Also, OP is stupid not to tell them immediately it was on 70 percent. No different than a rental car company leaving you only 3/4 tank. Not an EV issue.

100 percent lie.

I know of chargers in my neighborhood that are free. Find a free slow charger and park for a couple hours.

when you battery goes bad, and it 100% will in a few years, it costs $15k-$20k for another battery plus labor to completely disasseble and reassemble the car to replace it.
Oh I see, you parrot myths.
