You think Olympic track & field coaches in 1976 just blew a whistle and told athletes to “run?” Complete bullshite.

Nope, but we’re not talking Olympic track are we. We’re talking about high school track in 1972. And I’ve seen shitty track coaches in my 25 years of coaching, so yeah. I think it’s possible.

You’re arguing shite that no one brought up.

Are those the idential twins that have the samename, both play short stop in the Minor Leagues, look just alike (unfortunate) but have no common ancestry AT ALL?

Yeah, I’m invested in the issue as a college track athlete and former high school track coach, but the idea that track is just handing a football assistant coach a whistle and telling kids to run is so stupid. No one is talking about Bill Bowerman you frickING RETARD! Even the most famous track oah of his era was unknown outside of one article he wrote for Runner's world and training Phil Knight and Steve Prefontaine TO LOSE!

Poll a 100 people. Ask them to name ONE TRACK COACH. Just ONE! You're more likely to have them randomly name a women's gymnastics coach by mistake. More people know who Bela Karoyli is rather than Bill Bowerman.

No one gives a frick about track other than track athletes and track athletes REALLY give a frick which you've just proved.

Track is not a glamor sport. It is lonely. It is isolated. It takes so much more times than any other sport --especially the middle distances. I know. I spent all my teens logging mile after mile and getting up before dawn to log more miles, going to catch a few more miles after I finished my homework all for 1m 49s of three races and maybe flying fourteen feet in the air in front of judges that moonlight at the local BP.

And you know what the best coaches can do? Shave maybe a couple of seconds or even a tenth of a second off your best time -- that time you ran all on your own in a pair of beat up NIkes and gym shorts.

My older brother literally came out of the stands at a meet and ran a 54 second 400M because they needed a body. He didn't run track. He could just run.

I loved racing. I hated training. But more than the shin splints and and razor blading callouses and blisters, I hate track figs that were real impressed with their ability to run fast and jump high. I ran the 800m, 1600M, 3200M, Distance Medley, Sprint Medley, 4 X 800M 4, X 1600M and I pole vaulted. I had shin splints so bad I had to run barefoot on the infield to practice for most of a season.

So sit the frick DOWN.

No one was saying anything you are arguing against, you absolute MORON!

Did your partner fist you too hard last night?

Jesus Christ and all his apostles...fuking track figs man.

This one even stumps Gemini. Easily once of the most mindblowing things I've ever heard of.!

When you consider that you are looking for a match within a tiny pool of people who share a rare German last name, who also fall into the 1% categories for both height and hair color, and then both defy the 1% athletic odds to play pro baseball—you are looking at a number so close to zero that, mathematically speaking, it rounds down to impossible.

A lot of smaller schools are still this way. They don’t have a real track coach just guys holding a whistle that never ran track or cross.

A few years ago a 1A school won state and they don’t have a track. 3 kids scored all their points. 1 ran a 1:51 800m and it was fastest time for all classes.

I know of another school that uses their band teacher as their track and cross coach. There are some small schools that use parents or substitute teachers.

Back around 07-08 … this one guy always stood outside the Raceway on Airline trying to strike up conversations with people I alway assume to beg for change…I frequently went to this store so I halfway got to know him… fast forward a couple years I’m in Bethesda, Maryland … I step outside a restaurant after dinner to have a smoke…I run across the same guy only dressed in a suit clean shaven… he notices me leaves his group bums a cigarette off me ask how I was doing, I say fine, he says that’s good and returns to his group… that’s it … didn’t give a explanation why he was there and I didn’t ask for one… I still remember the girl I was with asking me “who was that White man you was talking to” loud enough to make the table next to us laugh
