2020 to 2026 may give that a run for it's money.

The scene seems to imply she has a come to Jesus moment. Recall she almost jumps off the balcony.

If you think that then her whoring is also behind her before the government released Aids.

No penises were chopped; no girls cutting off their tits, no non-binary asexuals. Yeah it was really crazy.

You mean the ones who could afford it. The vast majority of that generation lived normal working lives with normal responsibilities.

I think she really died of Hep C. We all just assumed AIDS because the movie came out in the 90's when we were being conditioned to think that we could all get AIDS despite being normal.

It is unclear but given that the movie was trying to touch on so many cultural/social milestones it just doesn't feel like it would be anything but aids.

Off topic but I was in Savannah last year. I walked to where the “bench” was from FG just to check it out. I’m sure most know it was just placed there for the movie. Anyway, right where it was supposed to be was parked a big gaudy EV Amazon truck. The poetry of the scene where all of Americana unfolded in the 90s to now was simply incredible.

That's my generation ... our schools were the best in the world back then. Forced busing was still a year or two away. Life was good. '68 was kind of a turning point. The Tet Offensive was on in Vietnam. Easy Rider may have come out that year or there abouts. Jane Fonda was being a full blown count. There were protests up north and out west. TV was still very wholesome. We kids .... we had it good. Life was good. No real worries for the most part. The Black Panthers and Soviets/Commies seemed far away in the big cities up north and in the midwest.

Should'uv never given women the Right to Vote 50 years earlier though ... they were causing a lot of chaos by '68.

Iris was a cutie pie though. 72 is not that old. She didn't look like the smoker or heavy drinker or druggie type, she probably still looks good. Her daughter was 48 three years ago so .... Iris may have great grandkids by now.

Right. One of my favorite movies of all time. He was the only one who truly loved her. She looked everywhere for love all her life, and he was there the whole time. Sadly, she didn't see it until the end.

Well ... he WAS on the spectrum and all.

And SHE DID wanna get away from an abusive white trash father apparently.

Plus she thought she was going to be a movie star or famous singer ... she had big dreams and good looks.

She made bad choices ... except for that one time on the bus when she made a friend for life.

The author of the book said it was Hep-C, which hadn’t been named at the time.

The screenwriter said it was supposed to be AiDS. I even read they were planning a sequel about little Forrest having contracted it, but didn’t go through with it because of 9/11.

Deserved much much better tbh

I took that to mean Forrest didn’t deserve someone (so shitty), he deserved someone better.

Wtf?
Bc people had alot more freedoms back then. The generation now doesn't even see the laws that have been put in place. Freedom of speach is gone to shite, Privacy is totally gone, Face recognition software everywhere. And we as citizens give to to them with our phones when you use that shite to unlock them. Using finger prints etc. It's all collected and stored. Even growing up in the late 70s and early 80s was the best of times hands down. frick the world and this society in the usa that's been created by all this Woke, Pussy arse generation. They want to be heard but don't want to hear it back. Fragile little counts. Imagine these kids actually having to protect this country if we were ever invaded. Or if a real catastrophe happened and had to survive for a year or longer off the land, without Google. Done wiped the frick out! This country us to be a proud Nation and stood up against outsiders, now the fricks stand with communist and terrorists and belittle there own country. We're a laughing stock around the world and the rest of the world hates us, even our allies hate us. Anyway life was way easier back then and most of yall couldn't make it with snapchat

That was a really pretty girl. You could see she'd learned and mis-learned quite a bit. Tough.

I’d have to go back and watch the movie again but the timeline seemed to suggest she wasn’t in drugs when she got the aids.

She had hepatitis.

The movie set it up to imply AIDS so it would fit the overall theme of major events.
