When i had to renew my passport, all I had to do was show my "real id" and one other form of federal id.
Having a passport is not a replacement for having the new super fancy state dl.

I did when I got a new license last year. It was a PITA because the requirements for the new Real ID weren't on the website so I ended up having to make two trips.
All out of the way now though.

I did it a couple months ago. I went to one of those private license renewal places. Cost more but faster than DMV i was in an out in less than 30 minutes.

When I moved to Georgia in 2015, I was asked about getting it. I paid the extra and I’m happy that I did now. Without DMV express, going to the regular dmv in the Atl metro is one of the worst experiences you can wish on anyone.

Department of Homeland Security says that any of these will get you into a domestic airplane.
U.S. passport
U.S. passport card
DHS trusted traveler cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)
U.S. Department of Defense ID, including IDs issued to dependents
Permanent resident card
Border crossing card
State-issued Enhanced Driver’s License
Federally recognized, tribal-issued photo ID
HSPD-12 PIV card
Foreign government-issued passport
Canadian provincial driver's license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada card
Transportation worker identification credential
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential
Oddly enough, you can still fly without any ID whatsoever, as long as the TSA can verify who you say you are and you submit to the full groping.
