Real estate agent fees are a scam. Don't use them.

You say all these tasks like like they’re difficult. They’re not.

What? Did I suggest to you, without knowing anything about your circumstances, how to sell your house?

You have no idea how valuable my time is,the circumstances of the sale and the amount of travel time I had to put in.I lived nowhere near the house I was selling. It was also a different time/market.

You wanna do a FSBO sale and hire a "reliable person" to "house sit" be my guest. Its none of my business and knock yourself out.

I said it was 1,000% the RIGHT decision and it certainly was for me.

No idea why my decision bothered you so much and I've bad experiences and good experiences with agents and bought and sold 7 properties over the course of 25+ years.

it's an absolute bullshite "profession", but many on here will defend the racket of real estate agents because they're either in the racket or have someone close who is

most used car salesmen and payday loan workers have better morals than most real estate agents.

Yet here you are still arguing and giving additional details about your transaction on a public forum. These late in the conversation details you’re giving as evidence that selling the house yourself was obviously never going to work may make some wonder why you tried it in the first place.

Glad you clarified. Congrats on the sale!

ETA: I never posted anything about real estate I did sell or do want to sell. So of course I wouldn’t expect you to give me any feedback about how to do it. Thanks.

I have a good friend from N.O that does Dental Hygienists($35+/hr) 2 days a week and real eal estate the rest.

So apparently it pays very well. She keeps the dental hygiene job for some stability and slow cycles I guess.

How about creating more barriers to entry if you really want to raise your credibility for the industry.

I was going to get my RE license a few years ago but literally quit when I read that I'd have to work for a broker.

I'm fully capable of getting licensed as an attorney and opening up a much more complicated shop once licensed, but I'm apparently too stupid to be a real estate agent without mentorship.

Most aren’t, but they certainly can be.

All of them require time. As another poster put it it, they have a higher value on their time that being at the beck and call of potential buyers, inspectors, etc.

My time has value too. Apparently some of you think all a realtor does is show up and collect a check. If that were true the one I’m closing this week for a very nice lady I could have spared myself a year of trying to find a house that works for her and helping her with the mortgage process. That’s me looking every single day until we found a good one, weeding out the ones that wouldn’t work because guess what….her time is valuable too.

It has some uses for people that don't want to deal with the bullshite haggling (if you're on the seller's side)

For the most part, a substantial percentage of sales jobs are for people that cannot actually produce

She sounds pretty sharp. Keeping the steady check while leaving the potential for big upside.

Yeah that’s my biggest hiccup in getting one and is the main thing that pisses me off. Why the hell cant I just start my own real estate firm?

Right now, a seller probably doesn't have to have one but you may leave money on the table as fsbo probably won't generate as much interest/potential bidding war.

the vast majority of Americans don’t make $20-30 grand for 20 hours of work

But neither do realtors. The commission you pay as a seller is split with the buyer's agent, then the broker takes a cut from that, and then it's taxable income. Plus, most agents are self-employed, so there is an associated tax burden.

This board cracks me up with this topic. Y'all probably freak out about yard guys and cleaning ladies, too. There are myriad things you can do yourself, but you choose to hire someone else to do. It's almost like we have different skill sets, and what is easy or time-efficient for one is not valuable to another. Of the four agents we've used, one was a worthless mouth breather, and the the other three were worth their weight in gold.

And let me also add, if you have spent much time with the general public, you will understand that the intricacies of buying a home are probably best navigated with a "teacher" of sorts.

Most clients I show on average 5-10 houses to.
I closed on a townhouse last Friday.

It’s located about 250 miles from my primary residence.

About a month ago (a Saturday morning), the local Realtor showed us three properties in our suggested price range.

That took 1.75 hours with travel time.

I suggested a fourth property that I’d seen on the interwebs.

It was being offered at $3k above our suggested price range.

We saw it and made an offer on it that day, which was accepted the following day.

The Realtor was helpful in recommending a good Home Inspector.

Selling =/= Buying: there should be a premium for being the seller, it’s tougher.

You can start your own real estate company. Go to La. Real Estate Commission and see how easy it is.
