That's why the whole monument thing was so dumb. If not for that, Landrieu would have a 70% approval rating right now.

Disagree. He let the pump system fall into disrepair, so now people have to worry about flooding every time it rains hard.

It was like Mitch woke up one day and realized his political career was ending and thought “what can I do to get major news to notice me?”

This isn’t a thing. I pointed this out earlier in the thread. Check recent sales on Redfin if you want to see for yourself.

And, speaking of the French Quarter, it is not just Bourbon Street and all the bars and souvenir shops and drunks, etc. The history of the area needs to be appreciated and understood, but the majority of people who visit and even live here are too simple minded for that.

Spent a good bit of time living / working in the Quarter in my youth. Had many great times in places in / around there.

Bourbon Street has always been over--rated. These days, especially for music, Frenchman Street is where to go.

Possibly the most small minded and self indulgent nola quote out there. Always chuckle when some "well read" person throws it out there.

I read it on a wall when I was in Connecticut, granted I was in Mark Twain's House and Museum

Lol at the 700k shotgun quote. For $700k, you can get a beautiful brand new construction 4 bed 3 bath house in lakeview, with the garage, outdoor fire place, oversized island and all that crap.

The government is shite, there is no denying that here, but moving away from the Orleans school board and going to the charter system has helped tons over the last few years.
luscher, hynes, Audubon, lycee and bricolage are all decent elementary schools. Not that many inner city districts can boast that many decent schools.

And tourism’s is a Golden industry here.

That Tennessee Williams quote is not outdated. New Orleans constantly comes in the top 3 favorite destination for people outside of the US visiting (last year 2nd only to SF). Plus, with real estate much cheaper than that if SF and NY, if you are in the tourism industry, your margins are much higher here. There is a reason the housing market is booming and the demand is high.

Neither Tennessee Williams nor Mark Twain ever said that. It's a fake quote that's also ridiculous

True, a lot of the people moving in are childless, bow-tie wearing, out-of-towners or hipsters.

Their homeless problem is so bad, the city starting putting public bathrooms (think, port-o-potty) on the streets to keep them from defecating/peeing all over.

The city also tried a new type of paint that repels liquid, so that when they peed on buildings it would splash back at them to try it as a deterrent.

a sniper, combined with an non-responsive police force, would be a lot cheaper

There are no viable options between 450-650k. Everything decent uptown is over 800,000. Imagine how much more growth and how much better it would be if they appealed to this budget. Why is everything in NOLA really crappy or over 1 million dollars?

because a lot of people want to live in a pretty small area. New Orleans isn't very big as a whole, and when you take out he bad parts, it becomes tiny.

Just got back from New Orleans a few weeks ago to attend a funeral. It’s gotten worse in my opinion. Metairie seems to have taken a turn for the worse. Coming in from Slidell things still look like a 3rd world country. Sure some areas have improved but it’s gotten worse since the last time I was there. I just think the majority of people don’t give a shite. No way I’d even consider moving back there to raise my family and live compared to living in Brentwood and Nashville. I feel sorry for a lot of my family and friends who are stuck there because it’s all they know.

Quickly becoming the most overrated city in America. I liked Nashville a lot 10-12 years ago. Now...not so much.

Good point. Maybe that’s the underlying issue.

Sure. That’s just an opinion, which by the ways isn’t right or wrong. I’m just stating that Nashville was perfectly fine in the mid 2000’s. Now it’s too overcrowded and touristy.
