I really enjoy listening to other famous people stories about meeting Elvis.
I'm not famous but I shook his hand once, met Sonny, Red, and Jerry Schilling. Am fairly good friends with James Burton and have played his pink paisley Telecaster a few times. I've heard some pretty cool stories.

I have always wondered what brought him to become the Vegas Elvis, with the crazy shades and all of the gold jewelry. It just seemed so over the top and against his personality. He was in reality a very shy and private person.

He ruled Karaoke in his day, I'll bet!

It was the late 60s - early 70s. Tacky was way in. Tour Graceland sometime, it’s like a time capsule of 70s kitsch.
Also, early in his career (1956) during his first engagements in Vegas (which were a flop), Elvis befriended Liberace, who advised him to dress flamboyantly on stage if he wanted people to remember him.

His 1968 "Comeback Concert" look was black leather with minimal bling. As he gained weight and approached his late 30s, he must have concluded that that look would no longer work, because it doesn't look good on fat guys.

Elvis also nicked the black hair and shades to go for the Roy Orbison look

pretty sure his first movie was with his natural hair color(although the movie was in black and white,) there are a lot of color stills

maybe, but the idea for the switch was inspired by Orbison

The man is iconic, but vocally, not very good.

disagree, he was a very talented vocalist, over a three octave range, listen to some of his spirituals, where actually gave a shite, blame the limitations and apathy on Tom Parker

He is widely considered to have one of the best male voices of all time.
Please, enlighten us to which other famous singers you find tone-deaf.

quote:True. But in the very last scene, at the cemetery, Elvis returns in ghostly form to sing another verse of the title song. In this scene E's hair is jet black -- his footage was shot in a NYC studio months after principal photography.quote:pretty sure his first movie was with his natural hair color(although the movie was in black and white,)

that's pretty cool, he was an awesome talent whose potential was never realized, yeah, he let it all go towards the end, and that's all the whippersnappers and pundits seem to know about him, just a "performer," but he impacted the world

Every now and then, you see a comment that is so fricking dumb that it is actually impressive.

It’s a shame we didn’t get to see the old-man grizzled Elvis singing Johnny Cash-style Country/Folk Music.
