The Jack in the Box on the north gate of LSU used to be a Popeyes. And every know and then they ran a special of 20 wings for $5.

Emphasis on the plus after the 20. That's been a Jack in the Box since the late 1990s at least.

I remember both. We used to go eat at Gibsons all the time. I loved their tater tots as a kid.

You could go somewhere on Siegen or Sherwood late at night and not fear for your life.

Sneaking into Tiger Stadium and the dorms was also fairly easy 20+ years ago.

Natty Night at the Natatorium field was an event put on by ???? It was a huge party the Friday before a football game (maybe homecoming?) with lots of kegs of Natty Light. Anybody could show up and partake. You just needed to bring a cup to fill or you could purchase a solo cup for $1 I think.

Random keg parties all over campus by different groups, dorms, etc., was always cool.

Some nights they had a keg set up over in the corner. You could self serve and listen to the blues. Good ole days.

Bamboo House on Boardwalk was arguably the best Chinese restaurant in all of the region and the creators of what we now know as hibachi.

The original Happy Note was the best dive bar in BR and was where the BR Community College now is.

The best Ascension Parish dive bar was the Alligator Hilton.

Both gone.

Capitol High and Catholic High played a big game in Memorial Stadium. The sidelines were packed.

Capitol had a hot shot QB named Stewart, but Catholic was too much in a close one.

MCKinley played BRHS at BRHS in basketball. It was right after integration. Things were tense, but there were no issues and the stands were packed.

BRHS had John Enquist, but McKinley had an elite team. The Turners, Jingles, and Glasper were all good players

BRHS decided to play a stall and much of the game they just held the ball. McKinley, however, was way too good and they eventually pulled away.

Baker played a home game against Broadmoor, and both were good. Broadmoor had Don Griffon an LSU commit. Baker had a good QB too. I believe his last name was Robertson. He was also recruited.

It was late in the season. Strong winds out of the South limited Broadmoor’s passing game. Baker kicked Broadmoor deep and they couldn’t get out of a hole. Their punter was stymied and his punts were short.

Baker grabbed the lead, and when the first quarter ended, a cold front began to blow through. When the teams changed ends so did the wind which blew even stronger.

In fact on the first Broadmoor punt of the second quarter, the wind was so fierce the Broadmoor punter caught his own punt when the wind blew the ball backwards.

There use to be great high school sports throughout the parish from both private and public high schools.
