Kcoyote, are you in upper or lower alabama? I teach at one of these places. The current 3rd years are fine (still overly coddled though), but the 4th years are terrible.
Neither, I go to school in Florida. I went to Alabama for undergrad.

The academic world is very sheltered. The world of patient care is not. Welcome to treating the general public Doc. Crude People of every race can be noxious. I can't believe the crap I see everyday. After you deal with this stuff everyday for 10 years or so you just learn to ignore the stupidity that you are constantly exposed to. If you let the constant stupidity get under your skin you aren't going to make it very long.

Yes
There were a specific group in the now 4th year class, that did a lot of things during 3rd year to change how students are handled. They went to a new curriculum with that group, and gave them way too much weight on changes that may or may not have been needed. Like I get in trouble for jumping on them for not reading for a case that they've known about for days. Didn't read about the case, the anatomy, the why, and sometimes the h&p.
There are some in that class I really like, though most of those aren't doing surgery. The current 3s are better overall.

I suggest she's exaggerating and might be full of crap and a bit paranoid/hyper-vigilant. Some of those examples are silly and over the top.

Surgical critical care. Had planned on doing it 4 years ago, but things fell through (rrc didn't approve the program) so went private practice. Circling back.

Diversity applicants do have a higher chance, but the vast majority of students in medical school are white.
Maybe in Alabama. Every single Doctor I've ever worked with that was white was OLD. Indians, AA, and foreign Caucasians. Transylvania, Australia, Turkey, South Africa...16 years and the only white American born doc under the age of 50 I know is Dale Murphy on this site.

I brought it up because people on my school's class facebook page are sharing it and commending her for her bravery and I just didn't get it.
Good Lord your school is fricked. Which is it?

Well the school I go to is about 70% white, 20% asian, 5% ME, 5% AA.
Plus there are a ton of stats out there to show that the majority of students in medical school are white. That's why they made those "affirmative action" like requirements in the first place.

Not sure that is racism. But here is something that is a bot more objective. Black people have longer waiting room times and physicians spend less time with blacks compared to whites. also, Physicians were 23% more verbally dominant and engaged in 33% less patient-centered communication with African American patients than with White patients. Furthermore, both African American patients and their physicians exhibited lower levels of positive affect than White patients and their physicians did.

It's all we see in my area. Indians more than any other race. Lately my docs I work with most are 2 AAs, a Haitian, and an Australian.

Are you in Monroe?
Not a place many people want to practice. Google tells me there's less than 5 doctors in my specialty in Monroe.

And those are the numbers which the AAMC is trying to lower by getting more diverse applicants into medical school. It may work, it may not, but they realize there is a problem.

Does that study say if the physician is either white or black?

Haha I'd rather not say. But they have some interesting ideas they share on that page. It honestly gets pretty heated. We have people who argue about ADHD medication for children, physician assisted suicide, and all the fun things to argue about.
