I love raccoons. Pretty cool to think that in another couple hundred years, they could truly be at the level of domestication we see from other animals

They were already being bred for meat

I guess having a domesticated raccoon would be like having a cat?

I hate no affinity for raccoons.

No, more like having an overly dramatic dog that is a professionally trained actor that is also a thief

We have an outdoor cat we put food and water out for, and whatever the cat doesn’t finish the raccoons will. They will pick up the pieces with their feet, and when they finish eating will dip their paws in the water to clean them off. We used to try and push them off, but have kind of become fascinated with them. They are very intelligent. I told my wife behind dogs I’m not sure raccoons wouldn’t be a pretty good choice for a pet. It seems they can be trained pretty easily in comparison to most animals.

My buddy had a baby raccoon growing up. It was absolutely adorable. I hear they’re amazing as babies but lots of issues as they get older. For now at least

Sure, if you give the cats essentially opposable thumbs and about 100 more IQ points.

I'm convinced raccoons could take over the world if they could just get there shite together.

It means I have a strong dislike for raccoons.
I come about that opinion honestly.

Always found this fascinating.

quote:

Raccoons dip food in water not to clean it, but to enhance their sense of touch, using their incredibly sensitive paws to feel texture, size, and temperature, helping them identify food in murky water or low light; the water makes their paws' nerve endings more receptive, essentially "seeing" with their hands, though it does serve as a convenient cleaning byproduct.

But Jared Diamond told us this was impossible in that scientifically rigorous book of his.

Pound for pound they are some bad dudes. They will mess up a dog. They also kill chickens for fun by ripping their heads off and don't eat the chicken

Raccoons are not that smart. You could have just said better hands with opposable thumbs.

Had a classmate whose family raised a baby coon. It got aggressive and had to go.
