and I'm not risking shooting a weapon in my boat and an animal it might piss off even more if i wouldn't kill it with the first shot. It got off the boat itself didn't it?

I once drove 150 miles offshore only to notice a mosquito had rode with me, drove all the way back to Venice to bring him home and refuel. Trip took an extra day but totally worth it to save a mosquito

Where did I saw anything about shooting it. You either let it be, since it's your own dumbass fault for not doing maintenance on the boat and checking before leaving the dock. Have a good story from it.

Or if you're gonna throw the damn thing off use a net and at least mercy kill it with a quick drowning instead of making it die after it runs out energy. Or bludgeon it like a baby seal. What I'm saying is take some responsibility for its life or death.

Either way stewards of the Earth vs the trailer trash of the video

Ignore the damn thing and keep fishing.

If he shows signs of aggression as I am moving around the boat fishing... then he is going over. If not, let him sit in the corner until I get back.

That was his real crime. A friend of mine is a trapper for his livelihood and posts videos of him trapping various pests like coons and bobcats.

I worry some bleeding heart sees them and throws a shitfit

IMO. He is dumb for posting it on social media, but there really aren't many other options on how to handle the situation.

You arent gonna shoot it unless you scare it off the boat and into the water first.

I guess you could maybe stab it with a knife but that is sketchy as hell and you'll probably get a racoon to the face.

You aren't gonna gaff it bc that fricker will probably climb up the gaff and you, again, will have a coon to the face

You aren't gonna just "lock it in some hatch of the boat til you get back to shore" (probably the dumbest response I've seen). Yeah, letting a raccoon get beat to shite and suffocate in a hot deck compartment sounds really humane. Not to mention it will tear the shite out of the boat.

Push it off and be on your way. Its a raccoon....

You check the trunk of your car every time you drive to work?

Holy shite. It jumps off the boat of its own volition and you want them to actively drown it or bludgeon it to death. (Although it is a fishing trip and they’ll essentially be doing this to fish, but that’s another thread).

If he had been videoed doing that you people would have want him tried for murder.

There’s no winning.

You see the range on that fricker? You and your guests gonna huddle in the back of the boat and try to fish and hope that little shite doesn’t come near you?

Or if you are dumb enough to start heading back to the dock and then the crazy shite decides to jump off halfway back...what are you gonna do? Try to fish it out the water?

You people really have no concept of wild animals.

I've killed my fair share of cats in fans and fanbelts over the years. It makes a fricking mess, and it's always in the winter so you have to clean that shite up in the cold.

I have a garage. And no trunk, but I could see if a critter or something is there in the back and I do check because the derelicts around my office aren't the same ones I've seen for years.

As for critters hiding under. A few stomps or two and most are away. Never had to worry about a cat.

But car maintenance and boat maintenance are two different things.

Are you saying you don't check to make sure your gear is where it should be? You don't make sure everything is in order? Everything is right before you even set out for a little day sail? It's a very finite space even on the boat they're on.

Because if you don't, that's how dumbasses end up being picked up by the coast guard if they're lucky.

We typically load and ice up the night before and make sure everything is squared away.No real reason to do it all again in the AM. If something climbed in after that it isn't getting noticed til it comes out or were at least 40 miles from the dock.

And we don't check under the gunwales before every trip either I don't think anyone really does.

hey should have used the gaff and killed it in the water IMO

Gaffing a coon is not as easy as it sounds. I've seen it done and is far more brutal than maybe getting eaten by a shark.
