You seriously need help though wal marks. And you drink way too much to quit on your own without having massive withdrawals. You may need medical help when you do. I'd suggest checking into rehab. No one will fault you for going to rehab if you commit to quitting

Sudden complete stopping alcohol after lengthy drinking can cause immediate death. Wean off the alcohol, go to your doctor's office and have him/her set up a wean down plan of care.

I was in the same boat years ago. I'm not going to give you medical advice on whether you need help or not, but from my experience, get ready for about a week of MAJOR anxiety, bad smelling skin, waking up drenched every morning from profusely (and I mean really profusely) sweating all throughout the night, and some of the deepest, most nightmare-filled sleep you've ever had (if you're able to fall asleep at all).

The amount of people recommending switching to whiskey and just having 1 or 2 a night is stupifying. Why not just tell
only drink 1 or 2 beers in the evening, what's the difference? The guy drinks a dozen 16oz a day, he's not going to moderate anything.

See a professional. If you won't do that, keep a flask with you with some nasty liquor that gives you no pleasure. drink it when you start getting the shakes, just enough For them to go away. Rinse and repeat for several days. Think of it as medicine not alcohol

I am in the same boat as you. I am not ready to quit yet. I drink 8-9 12 oz beers a day after work. On the weekends, I usually wake up and start drinking, eat lunch, take a nap, then start drinking again. I break out in hives if I drink any kind of liquor, so that is not an option. I usually drink about 4 cases of beer a week. I don't go to bars or clubs, just stay home or go fishing/hunting.

You'll probably be ok. It's going to suck. You'll experience withdrawal symptoms, most likely. Give yourself license to eat all the carbs and candy you want those few days. It will help. After that, it's about establishing a good, new routine. Don't stop at the convenience store. Don't go to the bar. Avoid situations where you would normally drink.

I had to go to rehab. I could not have stopped without that enforced break and time to dry out, but I know several people that quit without treatment.

Side note- I would go get blood work done to check your liver and kidney enzymes and then check back in 6 months IF you do stop drinking and see the difference

Good luck

Now I don't feel so bad about my 2-3 beers a day.

What kind of beer do you drink?
