I assume you realize that's not even close to what I'm talking about.
Eta
Using that intentionally obtuse example, you ever heard of the former employer being in an interview to fact check?
Eta2
Have you ever been called by a prospective employer and asked about a former employee you know was terrible? Have you ever been coached on what you can and cannot say? Have you ever tried to use ESP to tell them the things you can't say out loud?

You were attempting to explain why people who are fired aren’t given notice they will be fired, by telling that companies could easily give such notice since they work on it for weeks ahead of time.
It’s a valid question. When one party wants to end the work relationship, most expect some level of notice and it is thought proper to give it. When the other party wants to end it, none is expected. Though it is sometimes given (layoffs and such).

Our HR dept handles this, they will verify employment dates and rehire status, that’s all. I’ve been coached to redirect any such calls to them.

I'm attempting to explain the reality of terminations and resignations for those who have ever only experienced one side of it.
In a reasonable corporate setting, people are usually given significant notice that their work needs to improve before they are let go. It rarely comes out as "if you don't get better, you're going to be fired" as often as it should, because law suits come from that kind of direct communication. Have you ever been sued by a former employee who was fired after months of collaboration to find a solution because "stress induced migraines" precluded them from ever doing stressful work and the job they held was generally stressful?

Yea, that's a risk treatment decision. They absolutely don't want people talking about former employees. Have you ever wondered why that is? Have you ever wondered if former employers are shite on in interviews? Has anyone ever gotten in trouble for that, aside from not being hired because of how it makes them look?
Do any of you fine people see a point in all this, because I'm losing fricking faith.

This is what happens when you put the dollar above people. Greed above reason and modesty. Corrupt politicians selling out their neighbors. Housing costs soaring so corps and flippers can make a few extra bucks. Businesses doing the bare minimum for their employees. Long-term health be damned, just make sure to get the next earnings report is higher than the last.

Just say, “I cannot recommend him too highly.”
They can take that whichever way they want.

Is this the longest thread in TD history?

I would advise against even that.
But you're the multimillionaire so I defer.

I gave 2 weeks notice my first job out of college, and that corporation told me to leave that day. That was their policy because they didn’t want people to steal their customers.
The almost year I was there I hit all my numbers every single review period. Management always told me to do more. But no raises or bonuses were offered. I actually showed up to the job with some licenses that made the company $$$; would have had to pay for otherwise and only 2nd year+ people were eligible . No pay bump.
Actually I didn’t believe in the financial products. They weren’t pay day loan grade but not as good as retail bank products either. Turns out I was right as they were a big contributor to 2008. They got bailed out by the fed and taxpayers. I got punished for giving 2 weeks notice. I actually needed those 2 weeks pay I didn’t have the chance to earn because of some corporate policy.
Now I’m a successful entrepreneur and couldn’t be happier. F corporate America.

Does anyone here not have coworkers that were slacking off 6 hours a day before Covid?
Covid was the reset button for a lot of people that now realize they don’t have to care about an employer that doesn’t really care about them.
