I am teaching a couple high school courses this summer for Upward Bound Math and Sciences at Wichita State University, a program for low income, potential first generation college students to get support to make college a more viable option for them. One of these classes is a research methods class and I have a group doing research on links between teenage addiction and "generational addiction struggles". As part of this research they have put together a couple surveys and asked me to share for them. You do not need to be a teen to respond but please think back to your teenage years. There is one for those that have not struggled with addiction and one for those that have. Figured this may be a good spot to share this to help them get some more data. These surveys are completely confidential. If you open the surveys please remember
A) these are high school kids
B)I had nothing to do with the formation of these surveys
Thank yall

Good for you teaching that class and hopefully it motivates more students to attend college (or trade school even).

Hoo boy, I can already point out feedback to them just looking at both surveys, but that's not what you asked for!

Oh I know… I try to be as hands off with this class as I can be and have them learn themselves. If they ask I’ll give input but outside of that they’re on their own.

Yeah, I took the experienced addition survey. It seems too vague and general to provide any meaningful data. Of course, I understand these are high school kids. I wish them the best.

Unfortunately, addiction is one of these things that people who have family/genetic issues, small amounts of alcohol or pills can cause huge problems that don’t happen in regular people.
Look at all the adults with addiction problems who deny having issues. Most teenagers understand the devastation they’ve experienced from family but addiction but aren’t able to understand what it really is. This is great!

Are you including nicotine in your addiction struggles?

I don’t understand the not struggled with addiction. It asks about mental health and then goes into parent’s addiction. What if my parents don’t have an addiction?

Seems great. Much better than what Cornell is injecting into impressionable young high schools kid's heads during their summer session this year.

GOVT 1626 Black Political Thought
Course description
This course is a survey of some of the canonical and some of the most exciting contemporary works in the field of Black political thought. The first half covers foundational texts from Delany, Douglass, Du Bois, and Garvey to Baldwin, King, Malcolm X, and Ellison. It focuses on questions such as: what is the nature of the wrong(s) African Americans have suffered in the United States?; what is a race?; what sustains systems of racist domination and exclusion?; and what is the best way to dismantle them? The second part of the course consists of an examination of contemporary works dealing with questions such as the nature and causes of racism in the 21st century, the future of Black political solidarity, and the claim that Blacks have and will never achieve any sort of emancipation in this world.
