Question For Those Who Have Been Part Of A Mardi Gras Ball Tableau

First, is anyone on here a member of a mardi gras ball krewe? If so, were you ever in the ball? And if you were, did you spend the entire year doing "ball stuff"?
Someone I know is part of the ball for the 2020 mardi gras season. This person is always talking about how they have to go to a meeting and when they talk about it, it sounds like something important and when someone asks them what meeting are they talking about they reply "ball stuff".
On weekends this person is always going to some place because they are trying to find a band to book.
They are consumed with ball planning.
My parents use to be a member of a krewe. My dad enjoyed building the sets and working on putting it all together, but he usually got started soon after the new year. There were people who were involved in the planning throughout the year, but it was a small group who worked on picking a theme, etc, etc..
Anyway, if you were ever in the ball (part of the tableau), did you spend all year planning for it?

This could’ve been the entire thread but you just couldn’t help yourself.

It wouldn't be me if I did it any other way.

I am a member of 4 organizations. I have had people presented in a ball and am in the tableau of one each year. For most of the year you might meet one time a month if you are on the top end of the organization with it building up a month before the ball.
As to stuff like the band, for most of the old-line Krewes they have the same band year after year and much of the rest of the ball in every organization is also fairly repetitive as to location, menu and the like.
Now, if you were a top person in something like Endymnion's Extravaganza it may be different.

This person is trying to make themselves look important. This is a common theme among some (not all) hard core krewe people. They place a much higher importantance on the krewe events, and by extension, themselves, than is needed.
Most of these balls are very traditional and are held at the same place every year, mostly same bands, etc.
There may be some set design work / theming work but that's actual work, not meetings.
Also, many of them have a script. I would imagine that would take a while to work on, but again, that's not meetings.

Do they give you an attachment to hook your flambeau into your wheelchair?

Call the band
Call the venue
Write the checks.
