Very well said... That is an option I haven't weighed. Obviously he realizes the risk, but he knows I will be screwing myself if I go the other route. Is a drop in the bucket worth seeing a kid he raised succeed? Idk that's what I'm trying to figure out

No not at all... I told my mom when she got divorced, "Any woman that has been divorced more than once is crazy." She asked, "Even me?"

I had to tell her yes... She raised 2 boys and is the strongest person I know, but she is still crazy.

Haven't talked to the guy in about a year, until I texted him abt taking out a loan. He is well versed in that area and I needed advice.

Usury laws vary, state to state, but interest rates are typically capped in the mid-20s. However, MS has a relatively high maximum rate on unsecured loans. If the OP lives in MS, it may be 36%.

Regardless of his place of domicile, the OP is a meathead. Presumably, he must have been semi-successful academically if he got wait listed for med school, but he seems to be woefully lacking in common sense and strategic planning.

He's a poor college student, how much can it cost to move when you don't have much worth moving? How much is an affordable apt in the city he's moving to? Does he graduate in May? Go get a shite job today and hoard some cash for the next eight weeks.

If the man wants to help you get a start in life then allow him to do so. Apparently he has the means and has offered and seems like he believes in your ability. I'm sure he is proud that he helped raise you and is seeing a young man grow up.

Use the money wisely, which he is believing you will, thank him and remember what this man did for you as you grow older. It is about respect and honor and when you are able pay him back or if he doesn't want that do something nice for him to show him how much this start meant to you.

There should be no pressure. Everyone needs a helping hand once in awhile and be glad he is around and able to do that.

What kind of engineering job does not pay for relocation? I would ask the company to pay.

If he practically raised you, and y'all are on good terms, then stay connected to him

Maybe by doing this it makes it easier to keep in touch?
