Question For Parents Of The OT: How Much Do You Expose Your Kids To What You GrewUp Doing?

I understand wanting your kids to watch some of the movies, listen to some of the music, do some of the activities you did growing up, which I would think is a good thing to some degree. They can appreciate both the past and current, but do you think it is selfish for a parent to only expose their kids to the things they grew up with because the parents think that today's music, movies, experiences, etc sucks?
Long story short, someone who is related to me through marriage has three kids. I think the oldest is in her early teens, the youngest is 10 or 11ish and the other one somewhere in between. The only type of music they listen to is old country.. Conway Twitty, Hank Williams Sr.. I think the two girls (oldest and youngest) doesn't listen to it as much, but the boy (middle kid), that's all he listens to. He has an old portable CD player and whether he is playing video games or outside, he has the CD player cranked up to some "Hello Darlin" (I doubt it's that song all the time, I am just saying the kid has like 5 or 6 CDs he listens to and he knows every word and it's like a 76 year old man in a 12 year old's body).
Anyway, the point is. Should parents allow their kids to discover things where they can create their own identity instead of exposing them only to what the parent likes and put it in their head that what you expose them to is "right"?

The problem is today that parents want to follow a fricking manual
Do what you want to do. And stop using your kids as Pawn pieces for a imaginary Facebook competition

I named my son Jaxon and make him play travel ball every day all summer in the sweltering heat even though he doesn’t like it. The other parents just go to the games and sit there, but not us. We bleed ‘insert team color’
I normally just sit back in my chair that needs a piston to support my fat body while drinking a gas station mug of coke. I like to scream “go Jaxon” and “That damn coach don’t know what he’s doing”. The goal is to draw as much attention to myself as possible and make it about me instead of little Jaxon.
He tells me all the time that he doesn’t like it and that I’m embarrassing him but how else am I going to live vicariously through him and rectify all my insecurities and failures?

One of your kids yells as me, I will flat out run right into them and roll over their leg, throw them my business card and tell them to tell daddy if he wants some.. to give me a call.

No I do not which is why I started this thread. I am asking parents of the OT how much do they expose their kids to shite they grew up doing and if they think it hurts kids when their parents doesn't really allow them to find their own identity.
Do you have kids?

I’ve forced my kid to watch most of the great ‘80s movies, but I’ve been pretty selective. He has liked just about everything I’ve shown him, so he didn’t resist much. Though Rambo was one of the biggest disappointments - it did not hold up well compared to modern action movies.
As far as music, I exposed him to a lot of old stuff. But the biggest help there was Guitar Hero. They played the crap out of that game for a while, and it was full of great classic rock songs. He mostly listens to current music, but he still loves stuff like Queen and Rush too.

I make mine butcher yard chickens. They cut the neck with a hatchet, pluck and clean. I also make them walk to school in the snow, listen to MC Hammer and they can only use our land line.

This is actually an interesting thread topic. You need to learn to trust your audience more and just give them the topic quickly. They’ll take it from there.
And in my opinion, it’s important to expose your kids to things you appreciated growing up. That’s part of passing down cultural and social values.

My oldest is five and rarely wears shoes at home, is always chaseing critters, loves to hunt, loves the water, requests boudin on sat morning, understands some French, and loves Keith Whitley. I think I'm doing a fantastic fricking job.
