Question for OT welders

My dad was a welder by trade, but I never picked up his love of it. Probably because I dragged a cutting torch across my gloveless hand in 11th grade shop and said “frick this!”
A couple of friends were wrestling around behind me and kicked the hose.
Anyhoo...I have some old school seat climber treestands that I leave in the woods year round. My dad bought these things in 1986 and they’ve been awesome until now. The marine plywood on the platforms has finally rotted out and I’d like to replace with aluminum.
Can any welding shop handle this?
Is there a certain type of aluminum I should look for?

If I understand what you are asking correctly, you have stands that are made out of steel with marine plywood attached to the steel. The plywood has rotted and you want to replace the plywood with aluminum.
If that is correct, you should know that you cannot weld aluminum to steel. Well, it's not impossible, but not at all practical for your project and not possible with resistance welding which is what most people think of when they think of welding. Just get aluminum plate like (3/16" 5052) and drill holes for screws and screw the aluminum to the steel frame of the stand.

1986 was only 34 years ago. If the marine ply lasted 34 years, I’d throw some more marine ply on there, be done in 30 minutes for $30, and call it a day.

You have a good point.

Yep, the new plywood will probably last longer than the existing steel.
ETA- I see its aluminum, but still think plywood solution is best.

Yeah you can if the frame is aluminum you can get tig welded. Also can be mig welded with a spool fed gun and special wire and gas mixture. Any welding shop can handle this.
I work in Lewisburg and could hook you up. I'm a tool maker for aerospace and defense contractor.
But honestly marine plywood or even treated plywood would be your cheapest and quickest route.

So 35 more years with new plywood doesn't do it for you?

Buy a modern stand would be my recommendation. Those old bakers will kill you.

Not Baker.
They were called Treemaster.
I have 5 of them and have never had an incident...and they’ve been used a lot.
I actually do have a couple modern climbers that I run & gun with...as well as some lock-ons and ladders.

If you want to go the metal route, just use expanded metal and rivet it to the frame

You may still be better off going with mechanical fasteners than welding. Welding can damage the temper of and weaken the aluminum frame. Is any of the original frame welded?
