Do your neighborhoods keep the gates open or closed during the day? For those that are closed during the day, do you have any problems with packages not being delivered, contractors or workers not being able to get in, etc? Ours open/close at 5am/5pm but stay open during daylight hours. We have had a string of break-in's at night in our neighborhood and now some of the residents want to start shutting the gates even during the day. It seems like this will cause a large headache for everyone and have no effect on the crime issues we are having.

Ib4: Your mom/wife/daughter has the gate code, your neighborhood is trashy, gates open and close at 3:50.

Edited for grammar mistakes. You can't call yourself Drunken Crawfish if you don't start drinking at lunch.

I'd move to a better neighborhood.

Your neighborhood needs to model what BRgetthenets neighborhood is doing. Email him and get some ideas from him.

It's kids in the neighborhood doing the break ins. Tell the soccer moms to quit bitching and get their thieves they call children back in line.

If you have more than a dozen houses in your neighborhood, someone will be by to let them in if you can't remotely open the gate.

Can you not open the gate remotely? Regardless, if the breakins are at night, shutting the gate during the day will not solve that problem, as you're probably aware.

The answer for you is to keep it shut 24/7 and hire off-duty law enforcement to park their arse out front in a lit up patrol unit at random hours of the day and night.

Ours open at 7:00 am and close at 7:00 PM...I honestly don't get it. If someone wants to get in and rob a place, it's not that hard to just wait it out. If anything, I feel like a gate says....rob a place here....they have nicer shite.

My personal security detail has been looking for extra shifts. Shoot me an email and I’ll have them get in touch with you.

Eh, his HOA Security Squad is probably too rough for the soccer mom tastes. They'll kick your arse for parking on the grass.

My large estate is not in a neighborhood, however my guard is instructed by the estate manager when to expect packages so he will let them in.

We have off duty police patrol in our neighborhood (not gated) but in regular cars. Our hoa sent us stickers to put on our vehicles so the cops wouldn't bother the residents. We've never had a crime problem either except for the occasional vehicle burglary.

We have a gate that stays open. Would be a huge PITA to have to sign in every time I go home.

People do not realize how effective law enforcement patrols can be for a neighborhood. They make a huge difference and are surprisingly pretty cheap.

This is probably going to be what we will end up doing depending if we can get the cost somewhat reasonable. We have roughly 30 houses.

Our hoa isn't particularly picky about property rules. They maintain the signs and medians and pay for police patrols. I don't really mind writing the check every year.

From my understanding, gated neighborhoods that leave gates open during the day it so the city will maintain the roads.

If the gates are closed 24/7 with a guard then it is on that subdivision to repair and maintain roads.

But I could be wrong.

How much do y'all pay for police patrols?

I believe you are correct.

I'm not sure. I'd have to find the statement. We only pay $250 per year but it's a big neighborhood - 450'ish houses.
