If you're in Baton Rouge, you want to hire the EBR Sheriff's Office. They're much better than BRPD and run about $30/hr. I have friends that have hired both and all have said EBRSO is the way to go.

Soccer moms are quite friendly - at least that's my observation from being a single dad at my kid's soccer practice/games...

Gates won't stop the crime. I lived in a very upscale neighborhood with a cop that sat at the front of the neighborhood for 18 hours a day. My cars were broken into 3 times and house completely burglarized 1 time. The problem in nice neighborhoods is each home has a house keeper, and or a yard crew. If it is an elderly couple or a mother with a new born, you could have around the clock care givers. All that "Help" is what is causing you problems. They watch the neighbors, and know everyones schedule! That is not my assumption, that what the cop told me! good luck

I'm not sure which patrols ours. We are in the city limits but just barely. I'll have to look at the cars next time. Nothing wrong with those baws making a little OT for an easy job imo.

I don't have the luxury of living in Baton Rouge, but I am assuming our local rates will be about the same. We were thinking of finding someone part-time to monitor between midnight and 5:00am every day.

My friend that’s a builder calls them “gayted” neighborhoods because that’s what everyone he knows that’s moved into one has turned into

It's going to be a bigger inconvenience issue than it will make you safer. My brother and his wife live in a gated community and they have the same debate at every association meeting. The little old ladies want it closed, but the rest don't.

Something to consider is the additional wear and tear on the gate mechanism itself. His association President has avoided keeping the gate closed all day by threatening to go up on association fees to cover the additional costs of repairs/maintenance. He said that shuts them up.

It probably wouldn't be ungodly expensive if you figured the per household cost. I agree with TigersSEC2010 that it seems to be a fairly effective deterrent to crime for us.

You're more clever than this Gauch. I am disappointed in you.

That’s scuzzy that you hit on women instead of raising your kids

It'll come out to roughly $1,000 annually. There is still some development going on in the back of the neighborhood so it should scale down over the years. Thanks for the input.

Definitely worth trying for a while and seeing if there is any difference in crime statistics.

Where do you live?

Sound like a bad neighborhood.

And the breakins may be inside jobs.
