My brother in law is a safety guy for a service company that does shutdowns in paper mills. My sister in law has suspected that he’s been having problems with pills, meth, etc. She asked him to take a drug test several times and each time he refused. So she kicked him out. This morning he calls her and tells her that he got called into his boss’s office and got popped with a piss test for suspicion. He tested positive for methamphetamine. He has no prescription for any ADHD drugs at all. He tells her that he failed and they sent him home for a week without pay. I think he’s lying his arse off. I work in the oilfield and that’s an automatic termination. Then you’re in the industry wide database so good luck finding a job. I don’t work in mills so that’s why I’m asking this question.

TL/DR: Bro in law tested positive for methamphetamine and is sent home for a week without pay. I call bullshite...

At our company doing the same type of work, the employee would be fired after the non-negative drug test.

I heard about a paper mill baw that fell in a vat of that boiling liquid and there wasnt anything left of him to fish out. That's all I got.

Perhaps the failed test was just a instant test and it still has to go to the lab for confirmation

more than likely other workers saw his behavior and called someone and that is was more likely that the "random" was actually a reasonable suspicion test

He's likely suspended until they can confirm via lab testing. In rare cases companies can have polices where they will offer treatment and probation programs, but these are generally staff positions for bigger companies, not contractors.

That I can believe, but as soon as the results come in from that test he will be terminated.

Sorry for the failed test and marriage.

I have heard of some companies doing a suspension for a week and you can come back to work when you test clean, never in a plant tho. So maybe its the company he works for policy

Adderall shows up as amphetamine. Meth shows up as methamphetamine.

The lab is likely waiting on confirmation of the results
