How It All Got Started!!

quote:

"Duck, Duck, Jeep" first started in Ontario back in 2020 during COVID. All it took was for one Jeep owner, named Allison Parliament, to decide that she wanted to make another Jeep owner's day. So, she placed a yellow rubber duck, with a note, on the parked Jeep that she spotted. The intent was to bring a smile to a fellow Jeep owner and to spread a little cheer that people desperately needed during the pandemic.

The rules of Ducking in case you need 'em.

Jeeps are the biggest piles of junk you can buy. Under powered, ill handling, prone to rust, rattle traps of death. They were great for the army in 1941 but are terrible today.
So this is how you are telling me you know nothing about Jeeps without telling me you know NOTHING about Jeeps.

I bought a 2024 Wrangler Rubicon 392 as a third car. With kids out of the house the wife and I enjoy throwing the top back on a pretty day and going someplace to eat, etc. Never had a duck left on it but wouldn't mind. Would not leave on the dash as that would annoy the hell out of me. Additionally, when I hammer the throttle it would probably hit me in the face anyway. To each their own.

Bought a 2017 in 2021. Got a handful of ducks when it still had the temp tags on it. Young daughter thought it was fun, so we ducked a few Jeeps around the neighborhood.

It's not lifted, no huge tires, no major customizing. It probably won't go off road more than a handful of times. It's just a daily driver convertible SUV- to channel my inner 16 year old

Other Jeep drivers that cover their dashes in ducks, plaster the angry Jeep faces, and obnoxious lifts and tires, etc., do not bother me or cause me any pause.

Do you feel embarrassed for yourself or the brand by the other jeep drivers who litter their car with these toys?

Every car group has it's douche group of owners, Ferrari and Porsche are no different for example.

Absolutely, I ignore any weirdo in a jeep that tries to wave at me too.

We bought a used one for my hunting camp and had no idea it was a cult. Could never figure out why other Jeep drivers kept waving to me till I looked it up.

How about three pedals and no doors? 1945

I’m thinking about getting a jeep just because. The whole duck thing never crossed my mind until now. Now I’m wondering if I’ll get a duck or two. If I do, I’ll probably smile and pass them on.

Same, I’m over sports cars for now (although would love a 911) but the idea of taking the top off for a trip down on the beach sounds like a lot of fun. Would definitely require a 3-pedal version and a V8.

I’ve been given two ducks with my Jeep. I don’t care what others do, but having all that crap lined on my dash would drive me insane.

I’ve had a Jeep Wrangler in some form since the 1990s.

I’m a Jeep and Truck Guy.

I have seen an old Toyota Corolla with its dash lined with ducks. lol I guess they felt left out.

Well your only options are pre-1980 CJs, engine swapped jeeps, or the $100,000 392.

Right after posting I took a gander at what is available and realized that, I know literally nothing about Jeeps and that post proved it.

quick primer

2-door and 4-door wrangler various trim levels.
V6 chrysler/fiat pentastar engine (great engine).
manual 6 speed standard; 8 speed auto option.

Jeep wrangler and gladiator are the best bang for buck on the lots today and have been for a while. Resale is insane and they are as reliable as anything else. If you need a bed, gladiator. If not, wrangler

Only downside is shitty gas mileage

I had a Jeep Commander. Terrible vehicle.

The electrical went sideways all of a sudden.

It started with the horn blasting in the middle of the night until I removed the fuse.

The mechanic said to get rid of it ASAP, but I still had to cope with it for a few months. Had to disconnect the battery every time I got out of it.

In the cold weather, it really went bad. The cops gave my battery a jump at St. Thomas More. It took a long time to charge.

I used to think that guys put a duck in their Jeep for every hot woman they had sex with. A coworker had maybe 25 of them. I asked him how he found the time to go out and look for women. He explained the duck situation. Not as exciting as I thought.

I had 3 CJ's before this 4 door Jeep thing happened. I'm no longer part of that Jeep thing since it's gone to some ridiculous thing where even dudes have fking ducks on their dash. It's sad. Jeeps used to be cool and now they're a mom or wuss thing.

Definitely want that 6 speed.

I’ve had my eye on a Gladiator for some time but the towing capacity leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe I can flip the wife’s Suburban into a Wrangler which in turn will allow me to pick a decent 90s Chevy to tow my boat. I legit need nothing fancy for towing my boat all over Texas for fishing.
