For those of you who frequent the Kenilworth-Perkins intersection - do you recall a sign posted on the vacant lot across from Kenilworth that showed a commercial develop along with the future extension of Kenilworth?

The MovEBR road program has two different projects in this area - one similar to the above route (Kenilworth across tracks then connect to Hennessy) and changes to Perkins Place just to the south (with a RR underpass). Trying to get info on which one will actually be built.

Contact district council rep last week, haven't received an answer. Probably busy with her election campaign.

The Hennessey-Perkins connector project will include a railroad underpass. This project has already been advertised and a consultant has been selected for the design engineering. It will get built.

I am not familiar with two separate projects. The MOVEBR website just shows one.

Underpass sounds so sexual.

Hey Bob, if things go right I'll be getting an underpass.

Oh you lucky bastard. I havn't gotten an underpass since I got married.

I live in that area and remember seeing a faded plywood sign that looked like a layout of an office complex. I do know that the Kenilworth HOA has not opposed any recent developments on the Highland side of the Parkway and I would not count on them to step up for their residents for this either.

Have you sent an email to your councilperson? She has been very responsive and helpful when I have contacted her.

Kenilworth was looking to be extended and go under the railroad tracks and connect back up with Hennessy. It was part of the study to widen Essen due to OLOL expansion and new children's hospital. Essen became an urgency project while other surrounding improvements including Kenilworth just died.

MOVEBR project seems to have replaced it but you still have a z style intersection. Will still be a cluster you know what in the area.

Where is the new project going to go?
If it doesn’t line up with Kennilworth it’s a big mistake.

I'm pretty sure they were going to put up a dentist office right there by spectrum if that is what you are referring to.

The website has it not lining up with Kenilworth. Shows it hitting Perkins about 300 feet to the northwest in the location of a business entrance. Looks like they are projecting to acquire that property and several homes at the Pikes Lane cul-de-sac.

However, I would imagine the consultant doing the design will propose an alignment which lines up directly with Kenilworth. I don’t see why they would not.

Yes, there was a commercial development approved at the planning commission years ago that was required to include the future right-of-way. The current major street plan for the city still shows that connection being made thru that property to the existing intersection of Kenilworth/Perkins.

The MOVEBR project is only doing an underpass at Dijon Road and where it crosses the tracks. The at grade crossing has an expired permit for years now.

Railroad underpass? Acadian can't handle the amount of cars folks need to get rid of?

Thanks to all for the feedback. PhiTiger1764 appears to have some inside information so I'll go with his/her take.

I sent an email to my Metro Council rep (Jennifer Racca) late last week, still awaiting an answer from her.

Below are two different maps showing this area, and as you can see the scopes are completely different:

Image 1 is from the project overview map, which shows the Hennessy connector, but misaligning with Kenilworth Parkway:

This image is from the Hennessy connector concept plan, which I assume is the next step in the design process:

Thanks again for all the info, and please excuse me if I have reservations about the brain trusts running this program. (Edited to correct image locations)

I believe the SW corner of Perkins and Kenilworth is LSU property,
and perhaps we can work out a deal with them to use their corner to realign the intersection. BREC could take over the residual property, take up the old segment of Kennilworth and add to the existing park.

I'm fairly certain the map that was posted on that property had the extension on the east side of the property, lining up with existing Kenilworth Parkway.

That is a possibility but there's no need for anything other than a direct connection across from Kenilworth, as this is the only vacant lot fronting Perkins Road in this area.

Yep, that's the one! Thanks for sharing. I forgot about street view.

I thought they were building on that lot, if they can still get a row through there that would be best.

No inside info. Just keeping up with the program.

Actually, I just read the concept report and it shows the underpass at Dijon road like LSUDAN1 said. So I see what you are saying.. they have conflicting information on their site.. that alignment map shows a different location.

I am confident that an underpass will be built somewhere as a result of this project though.

It is being built where I said. The Kenilworth extension was part of Essen study. That one should be built too but it is most likely dead with the MOVEBR project moving forward.

Another issue is the rural life center. It is a major road block in the area.

I hope you're wrong, but I fear you're not. Will pass on any info I get from council person.
