Got a ticket in one of the famous speed trap towns 2 months ago (thank God I never have to drive through these shite towns again). Said ticket was given to a buddy that’s a lawyer. I went about my business and thought it was handled. Well yesterday my parents got a letter from said parish that I had 15 days from 5/16 to pay the ticket and now fine or suspended license and other BS. Problem is, since my parents neighborhood is flooded, they haven’t gotten mail in two weeks. I haven’t lived at home in 6 years, I’ve been waiting for a permanent address which I now have to update my license.

How should I proceed? Call the police stations number that was listed on the letter or wait until Monday and call the courthouse? Have no problem paying the ticket if they take this fine off since they couldn’t get mail for 2 weeks.

Write a letter saying your so called lawyer friend told me that he would take care of this ticket.

You’ll have to go in person to the parish that issued the ticket. Go to the cashier and pay the 30-40 to recall the bench warrant if you’re past the court date.
Then regardless, call the DA’s office and explain what happened. Request it be moved to a non-moving so it won’t affect your insurance. They’ll give you a new amount and you pay that over the phone with a credit card.

You got a ticket, gave it to a friend and never followed up; haven’t lived at home for 6 yrs and still no perm address? You sound like you need to get your shite together.

Why didn’t you just pay the ticket and be done with it?

Been in school the last 8 years hoss. Hard to have a permanent address as a student. And a speeding ticket isn’t my primary concern when I’m trying to graduate

If you don’t live here, I wouldn’t pay it. They can’t really do anything.

If it requires your primary focus, it makes sense that graduating in 8 years is such a challenge.
