Call your cc company, report it, and they will correct the charge, cancel your card and issue you another one. ETA: Just saw it was a debit card. Not sure if you’ll get money back.

This. It happened to me one time and I called them and they canceled my card immediately. FWIW mine was a debit card and they reimbursed me for the charge.

Credit cards are insured unlike debit cards. It will be up to your bank to decide if they will reimburse you. I dropped Bank of America because they refused to reimburse me once for some fraudulent charges.

Are you 5?

Ask your wife if she bought anything.

If she didn’t, think long and hard for 10 minutes about what you’ve spent money on.

If you still can’t figure out who spent the money, cancel your card and go take it up with your bank.

I’m not disputing this but I’ve never had to argue at all about faulty debit card transactions.

When I tell my bank I’ve been fricked, they send me a check and a new debit card within 3 days.

If they didn't use the PIN number it rides VS/MC credit guidelines and you're covered. Bank will process a chargeback and you'll get your money back.

If they used your PIN, you're basically out of luck. Much more difficult to commit fraud while using a PIN.

You'll never know the source of how your data was obtained. And it is NOT safe to assume because you used your card at Target, that they are the source of your breech.

There are thousands of ways card data gets stolen including finding vulnerable online vendors and running scripts to run through card numbers to find valid ones. There are lots of safe guards against it but it happens at times.

So the charge took place out of town, while you were out of town? Yet the most recent use was at a Target where you live? Seems quite the coincidence that someone stole your card and ran away to use it in the same place you are now visiting. Highly highly unlikely. Are you sure no one got a hold of your card sometime on your trip? Were you in an airport? Sometimes those airport kiosks and stores show up with weird names.

Your bank, by law, will reimburse you within 72 hours once you report it.

From this site https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0213-lost-or-stolen-credit-atm-and-debit-cards

Here is the law regarding use of your debit card number. I modified it slightly, it’s in a table format in the article

quote:

If someone makes unauthorized transactions with your debit card number, but your card is not lost, you are not liable for those transactions if you report them within 60 days of your statement being sent to you.

If the card had been stolen and used , the OP would technically be on the line for $50 though his bank will likely reimburse the charges.

Here is the law regarding stolen/lost debit card maximum loss:

quote:

If you report before any unauthorized charges are made. $0

If you report within 2 business days after you learn about the loss or theft. $50

If you report more than 2 business days after you learn about the loss or theft, but less than 60 calendar days after your statement is sent to you, $500

If you reportNmore than 60 calendar days after your statement is sent to you. All the money taken from your ATM/debit card acount, and possibly more; for example, money in accounts linked to your debit account.

OP, call your bank, assuming your aren’t making crap up.

Call and report to your bank. If your bank is worth a crap, you will be reimbursed. I have Capital One and was refunded the same day.

You were a victim of the Romanian credit card skimming crew.

Man I need to do a better job of auditing my accts. I pretty much wouldn't catch that

So after this post I decided to go check out my main account just to see of something is off. Lo and behold I see an international charge for a Netflix payment.
At this point, I'm not thinking anything is wrong because my Netflix account used to be international, but I switched (or so I thought) a few years ago. So when I see this, I'm thinking it didn't switch. No big deal.

I call Netflix to make them switch to a US account. The guy tells me, no its already switched. I tell him that can't be, I'm staring at an international transaction fee on my account. After some back and forth he notices that theres two accounts tied to that card.

So I go to my account and search "Netflix." Boom charges every month dating back to November (so far, haven't looked further back yet).

This is a debit card so the claim I'm going to make with the bank will be fun .
Still not sure how the double acct thing happened. I know I changed my debit card a few months ago, and looks like the charges continued. So the frick up has to be on the Netflix side.
